With the mild winter and the help of the brotherhood I have had a wonderful 6 months of driving my 348. This past Sunday when I pulled into the garage I saw a mist form on the back glass immediately. I looked underneath and saw antifreeze on the splash shield under the car. I searched the threads and checked the hoses on top of the engine but saw nothing. I think it is lower out of sight from the top or the radiators themselves. Is it better/easier to remove the rear wheels and inner fender liners to inspect the cooling system or is it easier to remove the splash shield under the car. I don't have a lift. It will be jack stands and a creeper.

Again thanks in advance for all the help.

You need to get a pressure tester, apply test pressure and you will see your leak. no need to even jack it up.

With a leak as described I would remove the inner fender shields and look at the rads directly. It should be pretty clear what you are dealing with.

If you want to make it easy, any auto parts store sells a kit with dye for the cooling system, yellow glasses and a black light. Let the dye circulate, turn the engine off, put on the dorky glasses, turn on the light and the leak site will be fluoresent green. They also make a dye for oil leaks if you ever need to track one of those down.

The hose clamps that came with the car fail and can result in a leak. This happened to my car. I have replaced several. It reflected itself by very small leaks. Needless to say it scared me to see the small puddle but I had a big smile when the dealer advised it was only a hose clamp.

Thanks for the tip on the antifreeze dye and the glasses. will try that if the leak is not located.

    Eli,
You have an honest dealer who told you it was just clamps. Where is the dealer. You are on LI and I am in Westchester not that far away.
    Thanks,
    John

I had this happen over the winter as well. Sounds exactly the same. In my case it was just a clamp as well. I had read something about seals on the Ferrari hardening up under cold temperatures which could also cause a leak. When the temperature warms up in the spring the leak is gone.

So if you do a pressure test, and you find no leak, it may simply be the seal was not working well because of cold temperatures.

    Good luck!
