I have located an Antique Grandfather Clock in the UK that I need to have shipped back to the US. Does anybody know of any good packaging companies and freight forwarders for such an item?

    Thanks

Chas, as a timepiece enthusiast BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!

You will want the movement removed. Of course the hands on the face are removed, yet you may also want the main dial (and moon dial) removed as well. ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE PORCELAIN). Pack the bits in separate boxes (they can then go into one main box). The pendulum and weights (if it has them) also need to be carefully packed of course. FYI: Packing a movement for shipping is not something i'd trust just anyone.

As for the case, that is fairly straightforward for most furniture folks.

    Hope this helps.

I have an antique clock question as well. Anyone know where I can get information about Grandmother Clocks?

As I recall, origin of term "Grandfather Clock" is from a Popular Song of the late 1800's. Grandmother and Granddaughter Clocks are shorter versions. Don't know if there's a Grandson clock.

As best i can recall, the original 'Tall Clock' gave way to offshoots (different names/types) though there is no such thing as a Grandson clock.

Until I become much wealthier I can't afford the real thing. I have seen quite a few home made ones on the web that looked very nice, but I don't have the ability to machine such parts!
