First of many loads at the Komo airport in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. If your equipment is too massive for trucking to the location, your only solution of course; is to build an airport just for this plane. In the gas business? That's pretty cool to see a runway carved out in the middle of nowhere. I have been to a few places like that in Africa. The Volga Dnpr seem to be the most professional bunch flying the Russian planes. They gave me the full set of models last year with the an-124, IL-76 and 747, not sure what to do with them.
Yes gas, I'm working on the PNG LNG project just up the coast from Port Moresby. Haven't been up to the Highlands, but following the progress a bit, pretty cool about the models. Actually saw the Antonov off in the distance yesterday on long final for Jackson International airport, picking up another load.
That's very cool. We see the Antonov here in Denver from time to time as it hauls rockets (boosters?) from Lockheed-Martin down to Florida. It has a very distinctive sound when it flies over... wonder why, aren't they just basic high bypass fans?
Also, I (think that I?) read somewhere a number or years ago... After each flight, the flight engineer has to re-tighten or re-torque the engine support bolts inside the wing. And maybe the bottom of the pylons also. Anyone know about this?
Nice, I travel there quite often for some mines in PNG but am more active in the Indo side (Papua) for now. Have not been in PNG for the past 3 years, Any interesting or horror stories to share
