2 channels... That's one too many! You guys need to throw out all that HiFi junk and get with the program. Everyone knows that mono is the big thing now. Here is my Silvertone. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dave- you laugh, but I remember this vintage record store in Hollywood, on West Highland I think, sorry the name escapes me, have no idea if it is still there. He had some humongous Electro-Voice Patrician speakers, one in one room, one in another. I asked him about their placement- his serious view- stereo was a gimmick!
Anybody ever heard of a Jensen speaker, BL-250/C-151? A great big cabinet about 4 feet tall? Probably made in the 50s. Bought it at an estate sale for $25. Too bad they only had one. And what's with all that Western Electric garbage bringing all those huge bids on E-Bay?
Here is what you need to buy, my handy dandy Studer A810. Only used by a little old lady to make dubs Sunday after church. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Alas, have not reviewed them personally. i am getting a nice pair of 211 amps shortly for review www.questforsound.com/amps/amps_consonanceCyber211.htm My fave 211 amp i had for years was the Audio Note Ongaku... but considering it costs the same as a used Ferrari Testarossa or 348... Guess some of us ARE certifiably... LOL And don't get me going about my quest for an all Ferrari red system made by Italians... Speaking of certifiable... Hell, my old GARAGE system for the Fcar as i tinked with it was about $10k of stuff... and the main rig in my home has a $8k phono cartridge (so imagine the remainder). Yeah, audiophile hobby is bad, but DAMN the music that pours forth and through my soul... Enjoy(ing) the Music (Yes 90125 on vinyl right now... office system... over $15k of stuff), Steven R. Rochlin "Set your heart sail on the river Look around you as you drift downstream Pouring souls into the ocean Take account of all you've seen Hearing Talking Love you One people - Together Freedom for today So easy the future So see the children's way... Many moons cascade one river They light from side to side As we cross in close proximity Like rivers our hearts entwine How we talk - How we teach our children How we move - We direct our eyes All the senses tuned discovery As and as and when our hearts decide Be ready now - Be ye circle Be the central force ye life As the game extends the cycle Be ready to move One heart's for love One's for giving Two hearts are better Than one I hearing it I living it I believe in it Two hearts are better Than one..."
DAVE!!!!!!!! My buddy, my friend.... Dave dude.... any great safety backup master tapes to go with it? Davis? Holiday? Floyd? etc?
I wish. My ex-wife took all that kind of stuff years ago when she split. It was almost funny seeing me cut from photos in a plie on the floor. ..."that looks like it was us with Foghat, that one looks like it was Paul and Linda McCartney"... What hurt the most was finding out all of the songs I wrote and recorded were gone as well. Sometimes that early raw stuff is still the best.
Now for something completely different. All Hail! The Mighty ARP 2600. Image Unavailable, Please Login
We're not worthy. No wait,....I am worthy. I've seen that thing in person. But did I ever hear it make a sound on its own? What? No Moog??? Anyway, I'm not impressed because I actually have an original 1960 vintage Theremin in my vast warehouse of rare holdings. 1950s sci-fi movie soundtracks anybody? Wooooooeeeehhhhhhooooooo!
Never graduated from my now 20 year old entry-level system: Hafler DH330 tuner Hafler DH110 pre-amp (modded) Hafler DH220 (modded) Hafler DH500 (modded) Magneplanar Tympani 1D (bi-amped) Magnevox CD (modded, external output stage) Nakamichi ZX-9 cassette deck (the Dragon w/o auto reverse) Sota turntable w/ Lustre tone arm, Audioquest AQ404 Still sounds pretty good after all these years!
Agreed that newer is not always better. So much great vintage gear out there... COngrats on a cool system and modding it too
Thanks, Steve! Amazing how the various mods transformed the system. BTW, you've certainly got two of the BEST motto lines here: Enjoy the music - - -and - - - Enjoy the drive Rock on!!!
Five year bump........ Okay, not hardcore Hi End but still purdy.... at least to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I run 2 mac 275's and a Macintosh tube preamp to a pair of B&W 801's sounds great. I hate home theater systems.
Yes, I have a two channel problem. There are a few of them actually. Most recently, I set up AlkémiaVero Speakers, Crayon mono blocks, and a Total Dac front end. It's a lot of fun...almost as much fun as a good lap.
Sota Saphire table / ET2 arm / Shelter 501 mk2 cart Audio Research SP 14 preamp MFA 200B tube mono amps Magnaplanar 1.7s
Don't hear much about Sota these days - makes me wonder why? Saphire/ET2 combo is a classic. I'm betting the system as a whole is a great listen! Nice! You really can't go wrong with Vandersteen.
hey David, Just saw your SoundLab P II's. I bet those SLs sound beautiful with your Innersound amp; well thought out. Did you select the VTL pre to warm up the downstream? Sota and ET don't get the light of day for all the reasons people have discussed in this thread. Sota and ET are 1980s tech and reviewers don't want to go there unless something shiny and new.
Pair of Grommes 360C mono-blocks with Kirksaeter Silver Satin towers for sale... local pickup only in the Seattle area - all of 2 hours use - not even broken in. PM for details Jedi
I love the Mac amps. I have a pair of Accoustat electrostatic speakers I bought in 1988 that are amazing, but the sweet spot is about 2 feet wide at 15 feet.
Thanks, I really think the Vandersteen specially the 2 series are way under rated. I have been a Mac. user since the 70s and it just get beeter as you move up the line.
I just bought a pair of biwire speaker cable from Crystal Clear Audio that has the 99.9999% pure silver conductor 6N. And the difference it made is wow! It really woke up my speakers. It has now better soundstage as in deeper and wider, so much detail as in you can pinpoint every instrument on the stage, bass is so much tighter, and over all, the sound is so much naturally live.
