So the wife needs a new vehicle and has fallen in love with this one. Does anyone have one or any experience? If you do whats your thoughts?

    Thanks,

I cannot comment on the MY12, but when I was trying to decide what RR I wanted to purchase, I drove the HSE & SC'd and the Sport & SC'd. My take was that the HSE was the better buy. More truck for the money, but I bought used.

If you're buying new, the Sports seem to hold their value better. Although, I didn't like the seats as much in the Sport, and the driving position is "cocoon-ish". While that's fine (and desirable) in a low-slung sports car, depending on the type of usage, you may find that sub-optimal. I tend to be out on dirt roads, climbing to or descending from sporting clays ranges in the summer. So, I wanted the higher seating position. And, the HSE's seats are more comfortable for longer drives.

The Sport looks nicer, IMO, but the technology that's packed into the HSE makes it a more capable truck. That said, if you're talking about a grocery-getter, the HSE is certainly overkill. If you've got kids, my friend's report is that the RR doesn't have the carrying capacity of a wagon with a third row seat (like the MB does).

But, it's a very competent mid-size truck. You should take her for a test drive in all of them and decide from there.

I have both full size and Sport. The full size is supercharged. The Sport is an HSE. Love them both.

Here's the difference between the two that I once posted on a different forum:

If you think of them like airplanes...

The Sport is like being in the cockpit. The full size is like being in the cabin.

My wife likes them. Might replace the X5 with the full size super charged.

    Could you compare the two?

I have both as well, love them both!

They are very different if the Sport is Supercharged, unbelievable brakes and handling! I will be getting another Sport for my wife soon.

Oh by the way, our 2006 Sport, we bought new, has 161,000 miles on it, never an issue. Service only at the dealer and it still looks and drives like a suv with 10K easy miles on it.

The current models are even better and faster...

No more Mercedes at our house...

If you plan to get her a new car remember that all new RR is coming this Fall.
Roomier inside, even more luxurious (allegedly on Bentley level interior) and lighter by almost
1000lbs (all alloy construction) which should do wonders for handling and performance.

wow didnt know that either, but we are looking only at the sport. She likes it way more. We are hearing that it will be a few more years until the sport gets a face lift. She hates her lexus, so this is what she likes.

    Thanks for the info guys!!

I hope the new ones have more interior room. I sat in a preowned & tried to figure out where the space went. They somehow managed to fill the Sport's interior with consoles, armrests, etc, until it felt like a Mini.

The strange thing is, the "full size" Rover *feels* as big as it is, and the Sport feels nimbler.... but they both weigh close to the same weight! (Around 5,600lbs.)

As another poster said, the NEW 2013 full size Range Rover is coming out at the end of the year. It's going to incorporate some of the "Sport" styling AND weigh about a half ton less. It will be faster, nimbler AND supposedly more luxurious. Land Rover designers claim that it will have an interior that rivals Bentley and will start just under $100k. It will debut in Sept. at the Paris auto show.

I would wait to see it before buying one now. With a 500HP engine in an SUV that weighs a half ton less than its predecessor, it's going to be a beast.

    Cool thanks.

I'll have to test drive both and check them out. The 2013 sounds interesting.

Purchased a 2011MY Sport HSE Luxury for my wife in June. The only difference in the 11 and 12 is the 12 has a power rear hatch and a few more standard features. Colors also changed. My wife love this vehicle more than any other she has owned, including her previous favorite, an Audi Q5. She has already driven it 20,000 miles and does not work or commute daily. It has the most comfortable seats of any SUV I have ever driven. I prefer it to my Cayenne Turbo.
