I'm working through replacing my clutch and rebuilding the flywheel. I'm a fan of replacing everything while I'm in there, so I wanted to replace all of the bearings in the whole package. I picked up new bearings and grease from Mad Dog Clutches. I need to figure out what tool to use to get the one bearing off of the flywheel. There is very little clearance to get under the bearing and it's also recessed a few mm and I can't get under it. Does anyone know what tool to use to pull it? I've attached a picture of that bearing and how it's recessed in the dished area.

I have a second question, and it's about the six springs on the clutch frame. Are they needed? I've attached a picture of them too.

Oh and I want to be sure to replace the bearings because of their origin. Apparently my clutch has been apart before. The close up of the flywheel bearing shows why and the picture of the housing bearing shows that it wasn't inserted all the way. I doubt in 1990 the bearings came from Japan and I'm not sure that a cover bearing would work its way out of the housing.

Out of sheer curiosity, were the spring ends inside the flywheel all the same or were there two different types?

There were 2 different. The long springs had flat and the short springs had ribbed.

I attached a picture I took so I would remember.

That's what i had. I've seen replacements of all flats, and I'm looking for an extra flat to make a CAD model of (i made a ribbed one, but didn't make a flat while it was all apart.. Maybe at my next flywheel service.

Remember when putting them back to be flats opposite flats and ribs opposite ribs.

    Yes.
They are what allow the friction plate/s to separate from the intermediate clutch plate/flywheel when the clutch is depressed.

Well done. I admire the courage it took to cut that bearing! Personally, I probably would have chickened out and just pulled the seal and regreased it.
