Geared down at very moderate RPMs in my 02 360 F1 while approaching a traffic light - when stopped the car was still throttled up wanting to shoot forward despite having my foot firmly on the brake pedal in 1st gear. Could not keep her back and needed to let her go through the red light as I could smell the brakes burning (small empty intersection or I probably would have tried to shut the engine off or select neutral). Anyway, very strange and somewhat scary as I wouldn't have wanted that to happen if I pulled up behind another car or at a busy intersection in a city! It did that a few more times until I pulled up at home and turned her off - fortunately, I was very close to home when it happened. Anyone experienced anything like this or have any idea what could have caused it? (It drove fine later that day).

I only have my 01 for 1 month. But I never experienced this like you described. When I engaged in gear 1 and the car stops, it will not move until I press some gas on it. It is not like normal automatic which the car will go when you release the brake. Your case is very strange.

Did you look for an obstruction around the accelerator pedal (floor mat etc)? You might have a bad accelerator potentiometer. Either way I'd get it looked at before you drive it again.

The guys in the Technical forum appear to have solved the problem! Floor mat slid up to the gas pedal! I went and checked my driver's side floor mat and one of the plastic hooks near the driver's seat that keeps it locked in place was broken and the mat had slid off and was very close to the bottom of the gas pedal. It seems like the problem may be solved! I wasn't expecting such a quick and easy fix.

Yes, you got it right. Floor mat by the looks of it. Thanks.
