I'd like to learn more about the cars. I know they're the unloved "ducklips" cars but they look great and sound fantastic. Any pointers, information, general things to watch out, etc. are all very much obliged. --Dan
I don't own one, but I came close to buying one a few years ago. They're great cars, very comfortable, excellent GT cars. And personally, I think they look good as well. I do own a 365GT 2+2, and I think the contrast with the C/4 is very interesting. The 365GT 2+2 is clearly in the same era as the 330 and the 250GTE, while, to me at least, the C/4 has crossed the line and is firmly in the 70s/80s era. I think the contrast is especially interesting given that the cars have very similar chassis and running gear, and were only a couple of years apart. They do seem to be going up in value lately. When I was looking a few years ago, I was looking at a car asking $44k, and that seemed to be the middle of the range. Now they seem to be going in the 70s. Incidentally, this should probably be in the "Vintage (thru 365GTC/4)" section.
Thanks for the response Don. I too find the two cars very interesting, and would like to make a soft foray into the vintage car scene. I'm just exploring the two right now, but something about the C/4 speaks to me, and I am inclined to believe they've got a lot more room to grow in value. --Dan PS: Can a mod please move this to the Vintage section?
I too want one...I am still thinking of trying to find someone who is interested in trading one for my BB512i...
I used to own one, after a 330 GTC and before a Daytona. Made neat sucking noises from the side drafts when you floored it, probably the neatest sounding of the front engined V-12s. The non-gated shifter and power steering made driving it easier; it's the only one of our Ferrari 12s that my wife half way enjoyed driving. However, I must say it didn't give me the visceral thrill of driving it like the 330 did, and the Daytona still does. PS-- I've never driven a Boxer, but I seriously doubt that I would trade a BB512i for a C/4.
Dan is going old school ? GTC/4 = last of the affordable older front engine 12cyl F cars. You may also want to consider a Islero ? Then you can join the other side !
I think it's interesting to note that many big collectors own C/4s and seem to enjoy them. Luigi Chinetti Jr. owns one and has made many favorable comments about it, for instance.
I love my Boxer and would hate to trade her. But, I have a hankering for a front-engine V12 classic and love the looks and sound of the C4 and cannot justify two Ferarris at this time. Plus, the way the market seems to be headed, I could get a C4 and sell it in 5 years and have enough money to buy another Boxer and have tens of thousands of dollars left over...
The only draw back to the C4, if there really is one, is engine maintainance you have to remove the carbs to adjust the valves. They are labor intensive but there shouldn't be any reason a person couldn't consider doing it themselves. There is something about the C4, IMHO I like them over the Daytona. Regards, Vern
