I had to do the same thing with my A8: thermometer ($23) is BEHIND the timing belt assembly (3hours to remove with bumper and radiator, then 3 to replace). So to fix a broken thermometer was $600... and by that point you're like, put the $80 timing belt on while you're at it.

    I've got an 09 Vantage 6sp w/ sport pack.

Great daily driver, the 09 with the various improvements is definitely worth the premium. Although in retrospect I would have specced the sportshift - I live in hilly SF.

The 4.7 liter (up from 4.3) with 420hp (up from 380) and 15% increase in torques is a huge improvement from the older engine which lacked low and midrange power. The interior is an improvement as well.

Build quality for the later models is MUCH better although there are some very small issues with the trim. Somehow the "its hand-built" excuse starts to get stale the third time the window trim falls off for no reason.

A great car as a sporty daily driver and in my humble opinion a slightly more imaginative choice than the de facto Porsche.

I would not buy an Aston again though. The depreciation from new is heartbreaking- when I bought my 09 scud in July 09, I was offered 60% of what I paid for the Vantage - purchased new in January 09. I passed.

Not to be a wise a**, but a good buy would be a slightly used '09, right?

    Absolutely.

Get the Sportshift unless you like to punish yourself like me. *whip crack*

Sport pack is a plus but not really necessary - great value though - retuned suspension/lighter wheels - for only 1.5K IIRC. Wheels alone cost 3k aftermarket.

Great for day trips with the wife - and perhaps in the same way, a great exterior can sometimes help you forgive the little things easier. :p

That means there are deals to be had in the AMs. What did that car sticker for, $135K?

I need to start shopping for Mrs. TRScotty :D:D

It stickered (better or worse) for $142k. Really, I was so so close to getting it for my daily, got the thumbs up from the wife and everything. My list of cars are just too long and so I bought a Porsche Boxster S instead. Go figure?

Raptorduck, Overall for an ASTON, They are bullet proof.
They range from 45 to 65 in that age bracket.
To me the coupe with manual stick shift is the best.
    Upgraded engine is your call.
    Ive had them all.....
driven them all..... still own my Vanquish.
Youll love it if the records are there.....
Its a cheap car to run compared to a Vanquish and DB9.
I understand your thought, its unique, its not a Porsche or Audi....
    It says.... ASTON!
    Good luck
BUT YOUL LIKE THE R8 AS WELL.....

i had an 08 vantage. definitely try to go with and 09 or better, even mech at AM dealer said the cars got much better starting with 09 . maintenance is not bad , traded mine in for a
911 cab. reasons being 1. did not want to deal with sportshift (F1) tranny anymore. 2. made my wife carsick, i think it was such a low slung car it made her very uncomfortable.
i would suggest finding a manual car. even though the clutches still wear pretty quickly.
but it was a stunning car to look at and drive. sedate under low throttle, and really came alive when pushed. all that in mind, if it wasn't for the F1 tranny. I would def. get a roadster.
and for the prices these cars are going for , there really is no other exotic comparable.
