Any attorneys out there?

Do you know if the dealership owns the car or if it is on consignment? If the latter, perhaps the actual owner has put restrictions on them.

 

I'm with Bruce, Doody and Darth on this one....doesn't feel right.

 

Frankly it sounds like dealer BS to me - what about when you get a loaner car while your car is in service etc.? They would still own that car too so the liability story sounds like a crock.

Standard operating procedure in exotic world is an independent PPI. Let them deliver the car on their nickel if they don't want you to drive it but personally I would shop elsewhere - sounds too hard already and if you are after a 360 there are a sh!tload of them.

You can easily do the PPI at the selling dealership.

Have "your" mechanic go there and do the PPI in their shop. You'll have to pay for his travel time...but nonetheless it should satify both parties. It's the easiest solution IMHO.

I cannot see any logical reason whatsoever why this would not be doable....unless as Brian has subtley suggested.....there are other issues...either political or personal....that come into play.

as far as the 360 is conserned, if they give you any hassle id walk, as someone else said, theres a alot of 360s out there for sale right now, i have no dout youll save a bundle by buying from a privet party

 

The indians there and I get along great. The shop foreman got into the Ferrari business when I hired him to work for me as service manager at another dealership 17 or 18 years ago. The management and I are another matter. Every time I show up it costs them a pile of money. Their customers keep coming to me as an expert witness to sue them. Just the same I just don't have time. I'm in the process of screwing the heads back on a 360 motor that was the subject of a legal matter against them a while ago and I am on a short deadline to get the car done.

If the dealership reluctance is due to WHO will do the inspection, then I have a problem with the dealership. However that does not necessarily make the car a bad car.

I was supposed to buy that car. Not to make you feel bad or anything, but this post makes me feel thankful I did not buy it in the end.

I wish you luck on whatever you end up with. It would be nice to see another 3 pedal 360 running around here...

"The prospective purchaser of a vehicle may, at his or her own expense and with the APPROVAL of the dealer, have the vehicle inspected by an independent third party either on or off the premises."

So it is up to them if they want to let you take it. Believe me I am not sticking up for those 2 clowns over there. They are jerk-offs in my opinion, but that is another story. Trust me if you are getting this much heat now, what happens if you require their assistance down the line.

130K for a 360 six speed! you may have to travel a bit to find the right car, but id venture to say, you should have no trouble finding a 360, remember always get a PPI

you might start by running a wanted ad on FC, also check with Martin at Cavallino motors, a FC sponcor, never heard anything but good things about him

You did not need Bob and I to tell you that.

Take a little more time and find the right car, time is on you side and there are a lot of cars out there.

May I suggest an alternative here?

This is what I did --

1. Pay the dealer to do the standardized FNA Certified Pre-Owned check that is required for the extended warranty. Because this check ties directly into the warranty (i.e., FNA doesn't want to warrant pre-existing conditions), it is a real inspection. I forget how much I paid, maybe about $400.

2. Once done, use the findings to negotiate the repairs into the price. For example, in my case, the dash leather was pealing back. So I got the dealer to fix it at cost.

3. If you end up making a deal for the car, I'd go ahead and buy the FNA extended warranty. I don't know what the current cost is, but odds are you'll spend that much money anyway. Every time I have taken my car to the shop, I end up at least $1,000 lighter. You need to keep in mind that Ferraris are expensive. Sad, but true. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to look elsewhere. One of the key Ferrari facts of life is that you have to pay to play. <Heavy sigh>

Finally, I don't blame the dealership for not wanting to let the car out of the shop. Recall the F-40 that was stolen recently?

I also don't blame the dealership for not wanting somebody else to open up the car for a PPI. I'm not knocking the really great independent Ferrari techs out there (Like the Rifleman!). But I think that you can understand a dealer being uncomfortable about letting just any dewhead put a wrench on the car. I know that if I had a car at consignment at a dealer that I'd be really upset if they let the car out for a PPI without my knowledge or consent.

I do not know about your state, but in Georgia there is no so called "cooling off period" for an auto purchase. In any event, have yourmechanic to the PPI at the dealership.

 

There are plenty of other cars for sale.

 

Dale, in the words of another Texan "That dog don't hunt". Everyone in that dealer knows me very well. Hell I have had more interviews there than the Supremes have Justices from those Bozos offering me jobs of one kind or another. If in fact it is a consigned car all they have to do is say so.
