I would only consider upgrading if they assured me that it would lock-up as regularly as my Curve has. I wouldn't want to miss that nostalgic feeling of a Sinclair PC, repeatedly dropped into a damp sand pile, that the Curve has given me - takes me back to a simpler time. If only I had needed to pull the battery more often to reboot..........

I've had the Palm Treo for years, but getting sick of the bulk. The Storm might be just what I need. Does anyone see any negatives of a Storm vs. Treo?

I think RIM should have completed the rip by calling it an iStorm.

Just because it's similar doesn't make it a rip off... the iPhone wasn't the first phone with a touch screen, yet no one called it a rip off.

I own an LG flip-phone, one I received for free because I have been with Verizon x long (you know the deal). The only thing the iPhone can do that my phone can't is that "turn it sideways and the screen moves too!" thing. Apple only sells products because they're shiny fashion statements.

As for waiting in line for the Storm... why would you wait in line for a phone? lol

The Storm's appearence and user experience is closer to that of an iPhone than an original idea. That's why I call it a rip.

I just made my mind up after a visit to Verizon after church today. I spent 30 minutes with one. It will be very easy to be functional coming from the 8830.

Agree. The keyboard is awesome.....move your thumb or finger over the options/keys, just press in slightly.

    Came across this article...

BlackBerry Storm vs. Apple iPhone: 8 reasons pro and con

Here’s why he prefers the Storm:
    Stereo Bluetooth capability
    Removable battery
    Expandable memory
    Video recording
    Works as a tethered modem
    Tactile feedback
    Copy and paste
    Multitasking

Here’s why he prefers the iPhone:
    It’s now second-generation
    Built-in memory
    iTunes App Store
    iTunes integration
    Full QWERY (virtual) keyboard
    Wi-Fi support
    iPod media player
    Safari browser

    Hilarious...
Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue with the Curve... You get the F'ing hourglass and the phone is useless until you pull out and put back the battery, right?

BTW, elementary question, I know, but can you guys confirm whether the Storm is a GSM phone or not? Is it quad band? Can I use here, in Europe and Asia? (Just thinking about it, but it is entirely useless to me if I can't do these things.)

    Thanks in advance....

The Verizon storm isnt GSM. But it has the radios and all that stuff to work on most networks in Europe and Asia (If that makes sense)

The Storm doesn't have WiFi... but does that matter since I'd be using the Verizon data (EVDO?) network anyway?

Several places have WiFi that don't have access to data network.

BS (IMHO) It's a great phone, the GPS integration, real time traffic etc etc is awesome. It's a long, long way from a "fashion statement".

    Mind me asking why?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Only if I can get it for free (IMO, paying for cell phones is stupid)...

No. I don't like touch screens and I dislike Verizon more than AT&T.

I'm looking for a new phone and this looks like a good fit. But, why no wifi? Any chance this will work unlocked on Tmobile?

Does anyone know the deal on their "click screen". I keep seeing it advertised on tv how their screen is a touch screen yet it "clicks" as if there are regular buttons there. Don't tell me they were just talking about a noise that it makes when you press a button on it

From Phone Arena this is what it has:

    GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
    TDMA: *
    CDMA: 800/1900
    iDEN: *
    AMPS: *
    UMTS: 2100

"This one is the CDMA/GSM hybrid that can operate both with Verizon Wireless and on GSM networks."

From the sounds of it the whole screen moves a tiny bit. Merely touching the screen only highlights the letter, link, or whatever you're over and then when you press down hard enough the screen moves selecting the character, link, or whatever you're clicking on and life goes on. From the videos I've seen, it doesn't take a whole hell of a lot of pressure to type so it shouldn't slow you down.

Exactly. The whole screen is the button. I didn't end up waiting in line this morning, I have a meeting at 830. I'll head over afterwords and see if there are any left. Seems that some stores get over 30n while others get under 10. Verizon still needs help in the product launch department.
