Am thinking of getting rid of my Spyder and wait a year or two to see what the future holds for Maserati before getting another. Want to go to one car for awhile as just pain with me having two, my wife's and now daughter home from school so 4 cars in a small driveway. Do not like the looks of the Cayane that much and about the only other SUV that would offer a sporty ride and be good in the winter seems to be the new 4.8is. went to check out at dealer but of course they had none, at least they said ordering takes only about 30 days for delivery. I like the 355HP V8 and the fact it's pretty small and gets much better gas mileage than my Spyder. Had thought I would go for it until I got home and showed my wife the brochure and she said it looked like a chicks SUV. So was just wondering if anyone here has driven one or has an opinion on them.

I drove the 4.6 and thought highly of it. It was just like a sports sedan only more utile (size). If the 4.8 is the same, yet faster, then I'd give it the thumbs up!

I have driven the 4.4,4.6 and the 4.8. The 4.8 is the ultimate. It drives very well for an SUV and I loved the available ride height adjustment from inside the cabin. It's fairly quick and handles well. It looks tough, not feminine in person.

FYI I had an infinity FX45 for a day reecently and it was better in almost every way. Faster, handled much better, had a far suprerior stereo but the fit and finish was not up to the X5s level. But it was 20K less.

I have a 2003 4.6 Imola Red. I love it. 45k miles and going strong. Great
acceleration in sport mode. Nice ride...very comfortable. Nicer wheels
than the 4.8. Mine are factory..but chromed by dealer. I think the
alecandra(?) seats are great. Great stereo.

Since you are not a fan of the Cayenne, have you considered the MB G55? It has a ton of horsepower and is pretty exclusive. Not a great handling SUV but 0-60 it is incredibly quick. I have seen the 4.8is in person and it looks great but I have never driven it. I am sure it is a solid vehicle but like alanhenson said the FX45 is great too. Not sure if the 4.8is is worth the money.

I was all set to buy the X5 4.8i, but Porsche offered much better residuals on their Cayenne Turbo and the Turbo lease payments were actually lower than the 4.8i!

So,I got over the looks, and I'm happy I did. I think you should test drive the Turbo.

Am now debating speed vs comfort. Another speeding tix for me going to cost over $600 a year for the next 6 years . Have always liked driving SUV's so now wondering if making a decision based on speed is rational. Would not be able to test drive one and have read many reviews that state ride can be pretty harsh on those 20" low profile tires. Also seems to be warnings on about every page of brochure stating "Due to low profile tires, Wheels, tires and suspension parts are more susceptible to road hazard and damage" after driving sports cars the last bunch of years I was looking forward to not have to be constantly on the watch for pot holes and such. A friend just got a Lexus GX470 and wow does that thing offer a comfortable ride and loaded with luxury for a true SUV. So now it looks like my choice is between these two. P.S anyone want to buy a 2004 Maserati Spyder GT 2,450 miles, all options including Tubi? BMW dealer offered me $62,000.
