****, came home from work to find a major flood situation happening...and after we finished the bsmt just right...figures!
After waiting a long time on the phone for my insurance guy, I found out that there were hundreds of flooding claims...no doubt, side streets just off Yonge st south of Finch were totally flooded...I almost didnt make it in my SUV!

Anyways, hope everyone made it home OK...and didnt come home to the surprise I did. But if not, misery does love company....anybody else get screwed by the storm today?

Wow brother I am sorry to hear :(

I was ok today but I know how it feels. Our last house had the same thing happen years ago. Not pretty at all.

I hope everything works out well. Please tell me the 550 is safe! And seriously, let me know if you need temporary car-storage!

Well, that makes two of us. My Sauna in the baement looks pretty much trashed(water still running from the walls). And the carpetting in the kids area at the front of the house, thats gonna smell. So much for having a finished basement. Just finished with the shop vac. Im sure the mold smell will start soon. Talked to all four of my neighbors, they are in the same boat.

Steve....hope yours isnt as bad...as it sounds either. Bayview was a mess, the parks here were flooded, and to top it off, right on leslie/steeles out of the country club a silver 456gt silver driving out.

It seems like our neck of the woods got hit pretty bad..sorry to hear you also got hit Rick :( Thanks Vasco, but the garage was OK..at least I didnt have to worry about that!
Yes, it's going to stink pretty bad in the next couple days, but hopefully I called the insurance guy in time to get good priority...this is my first home claim in 18 years, hope that counts for something!
Well, I started hitting the sauce a couple hours ago...just to relieve the stress, of course ;) As long as I stay on the first and second floor...Im OK, LOL.
Some guy in a 456 was out today? Gotta admire the balls, but question the brainwaves...unless that parking lot was toast, he should have left it there.
I cant even count how many cars I saw stalled from washing out the plugs on side streets.

Man, I don't know what happened. I was in the city all afternoon, downtown, midtown, then home. The sky was freakishly dark, but all I saw was a few drops of rain. Where did this stuff come from?

Not bad, got the carpet cleaning crew to soak up and clean up today. Only $180.00 to steam clean the basement. Still need to replace, at least I wont get that mouldy smell. My little 3 buckets of water with the shop vac was small compared to there 3 buckets. At least its done. How did you make out Steve ?

The guys my insurance use are fully booked...so I dont think they can get to me in time. No floating water, my sump pump took care of that...but my carpets are soaked right through in about 2/3's the bsmt...I dont think Ill be able to avoid the stench.
How are these guys you used, Rick? I'd appreciate it if you could give me a lead on anybody thats available in the buisness...doesnt look like Im going to be able to count on my insurance guys getting here in the next few days....pughhh!! Im not sure Ill be able to get away with just steamcleaning...but anything is better than nothing.....

You got lucky dude, glad to hear it! The sky did get really dark though around 4pm...the rain flooded out a bunch of streets...someone called in saying they had water up to there doorhandles on the 401!!
There were also a couple of tornado touchdowns to the north/west of T.O....it was one hell of a storm cell...worst Ive seen in years...

Thx Andrew...I guess it's only water and stink...nothing irreplaceable lost.

After seeing some of that tornado damage on the news, I see how bad it could have been!

Guys be really careful with the kind of mold that will grow on the walls now. It's the kind that is horrible if you have any respiratory illness- keep the kids out and wear a mask when cleaning.

I helped sonme friends with their basement - we used plain white vinegar to wash down the walls while having a bunch of dehumidifiers going. The vinegar does disinfect/kill mold spores without a harsh cleaning smell/chemical fume that can be just as bad!

Any of you need to borrow a dehuimidifier - I have one

Very good advice, and point well taken.

I have water damage specialists on the premises now checking for water damage in the drywall/baseboards. They ripped out all the carpeting and underpadding yesterday...man did it stink!

Did anybody see the blow-by-blow destruction of Finch Ave. on the news yesterday...WOW! Or the Tornado damage in Fergus, Ont. Talk about the power of nature! That was a once in 20 yr storm alright...UNREAL!.

Hey Nika, we do need a dehumidifier, but not for flood reasons. We can't exactly remember which storage it's in...

How you doing, darling? Got time to come see the new place this fall?
