my parents drink Chateau Clarke a few times a year. Mostly birthdays, or special dinner thingys. Not sure what type of wine it is though, the guys at the wine store said that 95 is the best year for chateau clarke, if you can find it.

Any suggestions of a red bordeaux to try?

I've not had much experience in wine. I used to drink a sangiovese/merlot blend regularly but can no longer find it from before 2001. I have not liked the more recent bottles.

Damn that's young. If you have the chance to wrap your palate around
something in the 1973 range....now THAT is a Margaux.

Too many good wines from Bordeaux to list them as was requested...Margaux is good, Beaucalliou is better, Petit Bocq is one of my favs and can be found in the U.S. in better wine stores. Pontoise Cabarrus is one of my favs of the less expensive Bordeaux's, maybe that is because I used to walk accross the street from my parents house and help myself to some grapes for dessert.

Another fav of mine is available at Costco and its called Pauillac, its very consistent wine, its a blended wine from a variety of growers, very consistent from one year to the next, never great but never bad.

    and the list goes on...

I agree, but I was surprised at how drinkable it was. I've had a young Rothchild, and it was so full of tannin, it wasn't enjoyable. This however was very good for its age.

I bought a 1966 Rothchild last year for my birthday. (I was born in 66) And there hasnt been a bottle that compares to it since. But I'd like to find out if the 73 can beat my 66. Got any?

I just opened a 1983 Margaux, it was magnificent, a superb bottle from a not so great vintage. I used to be in the business so I have quite a collection of vintage wine, mainly from California and Italy.

You know what the funny thing is? I still prefer to drink whiskey or gin - gets the job done in no time!
