I am going thru a cycle of these headaches now, which i attribute in part to the crazy barometric pressure changes in our weather- that always seem to be a trigger for me. (Other triggers are typically chronic exhaustion, or winter lack of light). Take Imitrex spray as an interruptor- have gone the route of most prophylactic drugs- Sansert, steriods, etc. and find the side effects almost as bad as the headaches themselves. Anybody else here suffer and what's your treatment regimen?

Hey, Professor... Unfortunately, i have no real, worthy advice for you (do i ever?) as headaches of any kind have always been, for the most part, a mystery to me... Occasionally, i'll get a headache if i've gone prolonged periods of time without food or water, but other than that it doesn't happen...

how does this Barometric headache trigger work...? Without the use of drugs, is it possible to figure out another way to counterattach these headaches before they start...? Like moving to another state...? :D

Sorry you're having trouble, buddy... How about a drive...? That always helps me, pretty much whatever the problem is... :)

Imitrex pills work the best for me. I have tried many things and it is the most consistent.

I have migraines every day. I don't know if that is a cluster headache.

I was taking Pamelor everynight for a while and that kept me from getting them but you have to keep increasing the dosage for it to keep working. It got to where I could hardly wake up in the morning. I switched to Topomax but it made me really depressed. Now I am on elavil at night I just started it so it has not helped yet. I use either Imitrex, Relpax, or Zomig to stop them.

    Prof.

you've eliminated all the other trigger items??

High Blood pressure, stress, TMJ, eyesight, smoking, alcohol and caffeine?

I used to get them often, tried a lot of different approaches, finally, just gave up what most of us would call the fun stuff, alcohol and caffeine (never smoked), added exercise to the regimen, and reading glasses, and viola, headaches gone. BP down 20 points helped a lot, I'm sure.

I got the more typical migraine, not cluster, but have not had one (knock on wood) for quite some time since the change in lefestyle. (maybe 1 or 2 in the last 2 years, as opposed to 1 or 2 a week.)

Thanks for the responses. I do continue to smoke, and i'm sure that doesn't help, although it doesn't explain why i am generally headache free 11 months out of each year. These headaches actually recurred once, exactly a year to the day:- i realized it that year because of the date of the prescription on the drug i had from the previous year's bout.
My BP isn't bad at all, and while i've always been a hyped-up soonmabeech, i'm far more laid back than i was twenty years ago. Interestingly, when i was drinking and druggin, suffered from the usual hangovers, but the headaches went away. I haven't had a drink, or taken a drug in anger for nearly 16 years, and during the past ten or so, i've been suffering from these ****ers. (I used to get them as a kid, young 'teen ).

And now, the weather has dried out- and my head feels less volatile. The symptoms are classic "cluster" pain over one eye- sinuses on that side slam shut; neck muscles rigidify; eye goes bloodshot; pain intensity increases 'til its slammin'; headache lasts an hour, sometimes a little less. If i don't take Imitrex, or another drug meant for clusters, the headache will come back in an hour or so, a little stronger, maybe a little longer. When that one goes away, if no drug intervention, another will follow. Thus, I stock up on the Imitrex, but since i'm really only supposed to take the nasal spray twice a day, i have to resort to other things if two shots don't beat it back. Once i break a cycle for a couple headache free days, the thing passes for a year or so, and then comes back on little cat feet.

I thought that was an anti-inflammatory for horses or cattle.
