I am looking at a low-mileage 2006 DB9 Convertible - Does anybody have any experience with one of these (or the coupe version)? Thanks, James
No personal experience, but here's a little teaser: All sizes | Aston Martin | DB9 | Volante | NW 426 | Wan Chai | Hong Kong | China | Flickr - Photo Sharing! http://www.netcarshow.com/aston_martin/2011-db9/1280x960/wallpaper_06.htm Hard to beat in terms of looks.
Get this book. It is simply fantastic. It has TONS of very detailed info, good and bad, on these Astons. All you ever wanted to know about the DB9. Long story short, the DB9's are pretty solid. Service and parts can be expensive, of course. I have a similar vintage V8 Vantage on my perpetual short list. Cheap to buy, expensive to service...yada yada yada..usual stuff. Ok to drive, performance is...well...subjective. Nice car all around. But be very prepared for obscene parts prices. Almost zero aftermarket support. Most parts are dealer only.
I love the coupe and have driven many of them and both convertibles I drove felt very different and had too much cowl shake for me.
I am going to take a longer test drive today and will try it with the top down as it is warmer today...will remember to go over some railroad tracks to check for this. It seemed stable enough with the top up when I drove it (short drive only) on Monday. Certainly have not yet made up my mind.
I have had a 2005 DB9 coupe for almost 4 years...no problems at all, bought it with 26k miles and a 1 yr aston warranty, never used it (the warranty), now has a little over 31k miles, and other than yearly routine fluid changes have never had a problem, except that you can't go anywhere without everyone loving it !
Well, after a longer test drive, I can say that I really like it. I did not notice any cowl shake - the whole car is very solid and has absolutely no creaks or rattles. The engine is magnificent, and the paddle shifts work as advertised. I think I may be making an offer on this Monday or Tuesday.
Well, the deed is done. I have traded my single-mirror Testarossa and my old daily driver 993 for it = pretty much even money plus a little change from me. I drove it over the weekend and took it back to sponsor RAC Performance this morning for final service, tags, and the detail work. I can say that I really like it - but, even more important - Mai is absolutely CRAZY about it. We are now a British car family - Rolls Royce Silver Dawn, and now this: DB9 Volante II. I did drive it over the the Ferrari coffee Saturday and confessed my terrible secret. Will be posting in Testarossa and Silver sometime today so everyone will know the terrible truth. James
Just make sure to plug the battery charger in every couple of weeks. And the radiator fluid needs to be changed at the five year mark.
