I think I met her at Interbike 2002. Was he with her then? I just figured it was one of his PR stunts.

BTW, that sounds like Marty. I did some race in Arizona or Nevada or some place like that in 2001 and Marty was on Mercury. We had specific instructions not to warm up on the main road as we had a special place to warm up. Well, guess who's out there anyway. That's right. So a cop pulls up to Marty and he's like, " you can't ride on this road." And Marty mouths off, "You can't tell me that! Don't you know who I am?!" Well the cop got pissed and went straight to the organizers. When we were on the line, they called out his number and made him come to the front of the pack and absolutely LAMBASTED him in front of all of us. Jonas had to hide his face because he was busting up so hard. I kept jabbing him to knock it off because I was losing it. Anyways, MArty got kicked out of the race for that.

Memorable enough for me to think that Gaggioli was trying to pull something. She was pretty hot.

    Ryan,

You're a trackie! I was a track rider also, but a sprinter. I couldn't climb to save my life. I raced T-town a couple of times, but as a California sprinter, it was a long ways away to make the pilgrimage often. Your career was much more successful than mine, but I loved bike racing and did it full time for a couple of years. When I returned to the work force, my resume read "full time amateur cyclist"....had to account for the 2 years somehow. I was lucky enough to spend a month at the OTC, set some local 200m TT records, went to the olympic trials in Houston in 1988 in the match sprint, won 1, lost 3, which is top 12 (tied for 9th?), and raced against all your old guys, including Roberto Gaggioli. Now that Italian had a wicked finishing kick, you guys should have seen him in his younger years. And when I raced, wheels had spokes and Nothstein and Armstrong were just a couple for gangly juniors.

Agreed, Roger Young is a cycling god. When I was racing, he was at Major Taylor in Indy. His wife was an world champion if I recall correctly.

My best friend, as a bike racer, got me into cycling over 20 years ago. We both have since moved onto Ferrari's, so I guess there is a trend going on here. In fact, he told me that at our Ferrari mechanic, he ran into Chris Huber, who was a noted pursuit rider 15 years ago. Who would have thought bike racing would be a stepping stone to F cars....must have been all those Campy components.

I've always wanted a Colnago. Not that a fat middle aged man who is out of shape needs one but they are beautiful.

It's not about need. Although if you want to get in shape, get a bike that you love. You'll want to ride it more.

Ctanner, that's awesome. I ran into Chris when I was in Palo Alto last fall.

F-cars and Ducatis. All the things I lusted after but couldn't have until I stopped racing. Yep, it's those campy components - with their "jewel-like finish."

I don't think that you ever lose your love for beautiful machinery, whether it be cars, motorcycles or bicycles.

BTW, while most of my international stuff was track, I was a pretty good one day road racer. I won a bunch of road races overseas and could reliably put down a sub 51 minute 40k. My PR is a 48:45 IIRC. Still never won an international TT but I was always up there.

Since everyone is name dropping. Ryan, you might of ran into my neighbor growing up Chris Yenkey from Salina, KS. He's been retired several years and never made it past a Div. II Euro team. I think his best result was a national criterium championship in mid 90's. He motivated me to get into cycling way back then, but I didn't get half way serious until USCF racing after college. Chris is good friends with Chan McRae.

Also, Richardson Bikemart (Matrix) was my USCF team 1997-2000. Jim Hoyt was the one that funded Lance Armstrong until he went to the national team. Jim Hoyt helped me out a little when I did the national triathlon championship one year. I trained and was coached a little by Max Miley who coached Lance back then. Heard a story they were racing the same Plano crit course I raced and Lance was mouthing off to Max after a crit sprint that he wasn't so hot and Max jumped off his bike and tackled Lance at however fast. Back when I rode there was a high school kid called Patrick McCarthy. He was already a Cat. 3 or 2 at the time. I remember once getting about a half mile on the North-South training ride pack and about 4 miles later when I was blowing Pat separated from the pack and pulled me home still ahead of the chasing pack. Pat just made the USPS team after a great U23 year in Europe...

After 3 years off concentrating on car racing and this damn website, I've decided to do some tris again and will also do a few USCF races. My current team just put up a profile of me...

It's just that Ryan is such a pimp, he moves in certain circles (hyuk hyuk hyuk, I know. ). Besides, I'm sure he can regale many an adventure most of us wouldnt have any insight to.

Well that's the best part about Ferrari chat (and sort of Ferrari ownership in general). Lots of us share the same interests outside of just Ferraris and it's nice to be able to share it.
