Hey Guys, Ive had Asthma all my life. Never effected me badly
except when working out. I cant remember the last time I
    had an attack.

Somtimes it gets worse during the days, and I have a puffer
that I use. I figured I would goto a doctor and get something that
will control it all day long. I asked specifically for something GENERIC.

Doctor recommend Singulair and Advair. Ive used the Advair before, but
dont find it that effective, because I dont get into the habit of using
it twice a day. He wrote me a persciption for Singulair.

I just had the Singulair filled, $60!!!!!! And thats a COPAY! Thats almost
$700 a year for a stupid pill. This is EXACTLY why I asked for a Generic,
    I just cant afford a $2 a pill habit.

My Doctor says these are the only two he can give me, I think he's full
of crap. Any doctors here have any recommendations for something
GENERIC? I sort of feel my Doctor is lying to me. I also dont believe that
they dont have a generic medication that I can take once a day to
    control asthma.

Can any doctors make any recommendations for a once a day pill that
controls Asthma that is Generic? Does such a thing exist?

    Thanks!

You can use Advair once a day. I've had asthma forever too. Used to use a lot of albuterol, but that only treated the symptom. I use Advair now once a day (in the morning). It really helps. I still carry an inhaler, but I use it MUCH less. It takes a while to get into your system....so maybe give it another chance.

As for the co-pay -- all this stuff is outrageously expensive. I am lucky to have a good prescription plan. Pay about $10 for an Advair diskus and laugh when I see that my insurance has to pay the other $150 or whatever it costs.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the response! I was using the advair once a day, didnt seem
to have that big of an effect. Still ended up using the albuterol if I
got really into something like lifting or even just mowing the lawn!

    Brendon,

I'm a physical therapist, asthmatic and son of a pulmonologist. I use advair twice a day. Advair comes in multiple strengths. 100, 250, and 500, depending on the severity of your condition. I use the 250 which has significantly decreased my use of the rescue inhaler. Your physician is on the right track. Trust me a copay is much better than a bill for a asthma related hospitalization.

    And then drop trou........

Sorry couldn't resist. I use Q-var which seems to help some but I too forget to take it sometimes. It's one of those things that it seems you need to do religiously for it to have the desired effect.
