    Guys,

Just saw my doctor and was complaining about chest pain. Just to be safe he wanted to refer me to a cardiologist after he ran my EKG. Can someone explain this?

disclaimer: I am working with limited info, so defer to your cardilogist for an actual opinion. End of disclaimer.

Your ekg looks pretty good. Shows LVH which is a sign of minor strain on your left ventricle. Most anyone with hypertesion has it. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

What your doc was looking for were signs of arrythmia or ischemia. The ekg you show shows neither. It contains what we like to call "nonspecific findings."

Your evaluation will depend more on your history and exam, than the ekg...

PS. You may want to erase your name off the ekg. If you are truly 30, your risk of CAD is pretty close to zilch unless you have significant risk factors, family history, or physical findings. Follow through with your doctors opinion.

PPS. Welsome to your thirties. The age when stuff first starts going wrong and you realize you aren't immortal :)>

Further disclaimer: Only a fool would get medical advice on the net (written on behalf of our lawyer freinds).

thanks.........I guess I panicked for no reason. I know I shouldnt ask online, but I guess I lost my judgement when I found out I had to see a cardiologist.

Did your doc hear any murmurs? Do you HAVE hypertension? You will probably get an echo, and if he is still concerned, a stress test...

Showoff! Just kidding. Actually, I thought I was having a heart attack back in January. Stooped over in the bathroom, strong heart pain, could barely breathe. It turns out I had pleurisy, and the infected area was right against my heart. So, hopefully everything's OK for you, but make sure they check all possibilities.

We have a cardiac surgeon in the LamboChat section...might wanna steer him to this thread?

If I had you on bypass, and that were your rhythm prior to coming off, I'd say it looked pretty good... But I don't know jack... :D

this is a car forum- sorry for your troubles , but going to the net for serious medical advice is just like what others have said here. You can probably network better with personal/co workers and family, not internet buds.

Well, you can still get some pretty good medical advice here, although none of it is legally binding. This particular section of Ferrarichat does not have to be about cars, you can talk about anything you want.
I had my father look at the EKG (Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgeon). He thought it was pretty silly to put it on the internet, but nonetheless, he said it looks fine.

Thank you once again for your advice.........I just thought that there might be someone who specializes in this field like luv2 detail's father that can share their input. Sorry to put this up on here, just panicked I guess

You're just glad one of the Doctors who visit this site didn't look at that and say:
"OMG!! Get off the freakin' computer and get to an emergency room right now!!"

Yes Aaron, coming of bypass this would be a wounderful rhythm. Don't get to see this much any more. People we work on now are too sick.

Verone, overall the EKG isn't too concering. Most of the t wave abnormalities noted are what are considered J point elevation. My EKG looks like that. Not uncommon in those who are in good physical shape. However, left ventricular hypertrophy is not normal in someone your age. Do you have high blood pressure? You do not appear to be significantly overweight based on the data on the study. This can also be a common cause of LVH. Chest pain can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It is important to take into account the "whole package" and not just dwell on one test.

If your doc felt it was important enough to send you on for a specialist consultation, it would be hard to second guess here. One needs to take into account a lot of issues: character/description of the chest pain, family history, smoking history, diet and exercise habbits, exam findings, cholesterol levels, and on and on. Go get checked out and if nothing else get piece of mind that things are OK. Feel free to pm me with any questions. Just remember, I am just a simple country cardiac surgeon trying to eek out a living and other opinions may vary.

BTW, Aaron I got your pm and responded back. I'm not sure you got it as I have had troubles getting replies to go through in the past. Hope all is well.

    Steve

I might just recomend not going to the swim suit thread or read anything with Dan in the Lambo section.

Cardiology is a very specialized field w/ high tech tools. Any IM or FM doc can read an EKG & detect heart frailer. But all the other stuff is only discerned by a cardiologist & advanced testing. Internet advice is foolish.
BTW: My office EKG showed an inverted T wave. Got admitted & did $8,000,00 worth of testing to say I can ride a bike at a rate 180 bpm and am fine. You need to show up for testing & go from there.
