Has anyone replaced their stock mirrors with aftermarket carbon fiber ones? I’m considering doing it and looking for any step by step guides, photos, videos, etc. that will help share tips, tricks, and lessons learned. Specifically, getting the “guts” of the mirror into the new housing (since the aftermarket mirrors don’t include the mirror and motor).

    I’m assuming the process is:

    1. Angle the mirror motors to their in-most position.
    2. Carefully pry out the mirror itself.
    3. Unscrew/bolt whatever is holding the motor mechanism in the housing, and pull out the wires.

But again, it would be nice to not have to figure it out in my own if I don’t need to.

There are 3 reasons I’m considering the upgrade:

    1. I just enjoy the look of the carbon fiber in general. It makes the car feel more exotic.
    2. The plastic triangles are debatably one of the cheapest parts of the exterior of these cars. And after years and years of washing and sun exposure, they fade and look even worse. Many aftermarket mirror options include the triangles in carbon fiber.
    3. There are “fixed” CF mirror options out there, meaning, they don’t fold. I know some people like to fold their mirrors in for tight spaces, but I don’t drive my car in such tight spaces. And as many of us know, the joint/hinge on these mirrors are a weak point that degrade and eventually break over time. Many people use epoxies and silly crap to fix them… Seems like by having them fixed, they will be stable and in the correct position at all times. Also, no more whistling the second they’re slightly out of position.

Anyway, any experiences or best practices would be greatly appreciated! Heck, maybe someone even has a set ready to go? (Doubtful, and likely expensive).

I wouldn't call something that merely changes the look an "upgrade", and if you get fixed mirrors, I'd consider that a downgrade. Just saying. To each his own.

Come on… You know that comment isn’t helpful… If you disagree, don’t respond. And to be fair, the fixed mirrors do solve a legitimate design flaw with the mirrors. If you haven’t experienced it yet, you will, they all do at some point. And carbon fiber is always an upgrade: weight savings. Same reason why the Scuderia is covered in it. But anyway, like you said, to each their own. I’m just looking to see if anyone has experience with switching them.

Gud luk. They’re not plug and play they will need fair amount or tweaking to fit correctly. I’ve fitted half dozen of these mirrors always had issues with them let’s not forget where they are made.

Yeah, I was afraid that may be the case… It seems to be hit or miss with some of these parts, but it would make sense that a part with so many details has a higher chance of being a miss.

Out of curiosity, what were some of the issues? The components going inside? The overall fitment? Everything?

If the OE ones weren’t so damn hard to find used… And new they’re 10x as much.
