Looks like the leaves are finally starting to turn, and I bet in a few weeks it'll look beautiful up north. Maybe a run up kangamangus highway (http://www.netrailhead.com/nh/np/wmnf.html)?

Anybody game, or have any ideas?

Count me in as well. I know a bunch of guys who want to do a foliage run before the leaves are all down. Up north, they seem to be holding out longer then around northern Mass due to the rain that has fallen up there the past weeks. I was at Lake Winn. last week and very few trees were even starting to turn, so we have some time to organize something.

How about Sunday, Oct 23rd? Leaves should be nice then.

I was thinking that a few of us could meet up in Boston and head up Rte 2, past Concord and Lexington (you know where Thoreaux wrote his "stuff").

    Any takers?

Sounds good to me Nabbs. Lets keep an update on the weather and try to find peak time. We also have to remember all the leaf watchers who drive at 10mph all the time. So we should pick roads were there are areas to pass and what not.

Our local Boxster/Porsche group does an annual foliage drive out the Mohawk Trail (rt. 2 in MA) past N. Adams and then heads up to Manchester,VT. We have lunch at the Equinox Resort and then burn up the toll road on Mt. Equinox. This is a non-public road that is used for hill climbs and other things. If you've never been on it you owe to yourself to drive it. Lots of hairpins and elevation change. Better to run it during non-foliage season but it's still a blast. After we kicked off the road for terrorizing tourists (well almost) we then do a loop through the Green Mountains heading back to Rt. 91. We've had great success with this and get people coming up from MD, NYC and other parts.

Just some ideas for you guys. Wish I had an F-car to join up!

    Steven,

It's open to anyone as long as you pony up the toll. $7/car and $2/passenger.

We usually get 10-20 cars each year and make several trips up and down the road. The only downside about going in the Fall is there's a lot of leaf peepers there. For the most enjoyable time (read serious driving) you should try it during the Spring/Summer. Still very fun anytime of year.

    Here's some info.

Rey -- this sounds like a great time, unfortunately the 9th (I assume it is the 9th) won't work for me.

Can anyone organize a run? I might take a spin there this Sunday with the lady, sounds like fun.

Steve -- I'm going to say Oct 23rd! I'm going to try and get a few of the guys together. Doody, Zan, and of the other guys interested? It looks *beautiful* and one could bring their wife to boot.

I know that some of the Vette and Lotus folks are game.

PS the Redhook Brewery Run was so much fun we're having a meet in Boston on 10/16. We're driving up from Natick to Cambridge. Info here: http://boston-motorsports.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1849

Ferrari of New England is hosting the Brazilian Grand Prix viewing that day. It was a great party last year, and I am sure it will be more of the same this year (with less stress as the championship is already secured). Perhaps this event could be worked into the cruise, either as a destination or departure point???

Glad to hear that the GP is on 24th. Regardless, I'm going on the 23rd :) I'll be bringing my co-pilot, so if she is coming, I am going to do this even if I am the only car out there :)

Already we have a few folks chomping at the bit to go.

I hope the Porsche folks don't mind that I copy their itinerary. So we would meet up close to the Boston-area and drive down there together, stopping for lunch once in VT. From there, we'll take the spin up the hill, stopping for pictures along the way.

All-in-all it should be a fun cruise, and a perfect event to bring your s.o. along to (Steven we can perhaps chip in and provide a "companion" for you? :) )

    So any takers?

    Hey Guys,

I have NO problem with you guys using the same route etc. A couple of useful tips. The Marsh Tavern at the Equinox Resort is where we stop for lunch. It's right in the village and very close to the Skyline Drive on the mountain. Same road. I'm trying to figure out ways to avoid two bottlenecks that we've encountered. One is on the way from North Adams when you hit Bennington. It's just slow stop and go lights through town with nothing really to see. The other is after we hit Equinox Mt. and exit through Manchester Village/Manchester. This is a very congested stop and go shopping area with lots of foot traffic during foliage season. Totally jammed up at our usual departure time of around 3-4PM.

There's a few other places to eat in the village but we've only tried the 2 places associated with the resort. Both are decent (not fine dining).

I'll post a report of the drive and any tweeks we made to the itinerary. Hopefully we could have a joint drive or two in the future. I met Doody a couple of weeks ago and if he's representitive of this gang I think we'd have a great time :)

Alas, booked solid this weekend and the next few. Have been doing my own touring when i can. FYI, am MOVING to my new humble abode. Below is the 200 degree view panorama :)

Wish i could post larger photos as the view is simply breath taking!

Now if i can convince my girlfriend to clear some more land for a proper race track as we do have the land for it :) Hmm... my own private race track :)

    Hey guys,

We did a trip last Sat that took us out Rt 2 West out the Mohawk Trail through North Adams. We then picked up Rt 7 N into VT and through Bennington. Took the 7A split North up to Manchester Village. Lunched there and then turned around back to Mt. Equinox to do the Skyline Drive. 7A South to Rt 9 East back to Brattleboro and 91 South back home.

General consensus: A TON OF TRAFFIC in the towns. Color was not peak but should be hitting it this weekend. Still decent color. I would avoid as many of the towns/cities as possible for this weekend. Crowds should taper off after that.

Mt Equinox/Skyline Drive was fun but a bit crowded with leaf peepers. They need to repave it. I bottomed out twice on the decent in the same turn. Some heaves and loose pavement in places. Still a blast though. Closed toll road with many hairpins and no speed limit. It will be closing for the season soon. We're going to hit it next year at a different time.

Still plent of good driving was had - 400 miles total.

Holy s*** Steve, that view is unbelievable! Absolutely spectacular! I'm a big sucker for views like that, probably a reason why I love New England so much. Congrats on the new place.
