My seat is near the last chicane, before the s/f line. You can't miss me, I'll be the one on that grandstand. Any other turkeys out there? Image Unavailable, Please Login
You're probably right on that one: In Barcelona and in Budapest I was able to make arrangements with a European GP tour organizer to join their customers on the chartered bus to the track. I tried the same for Istanbul and was told, they only have 2 (two!) people going to the race...So they won't bother with a bus but put the 2 into a cab. In fact rumors have it, that the race organizer will cover some of the grandstands as not to embarrass themselves. I guess you guys will see that on TV. Maybe they'll upgrade me to a s/f grandstand seat just to have enough fans across from the pits.
It's a shame that this race has been so poorly attended; the track isn't that bad, and Istanbul is a beautiful city. Are the tcket prices insanely expensive? Or is it not marketed at all? Curious to hear your first hand impressions during F1 weekend...
The track is probably the best Tilke designed track there is. And yes, Istanbul is beautiful from all I heard so far. No, the tickets are actually a good deal cheaper than elsewhere. The problem is, that F1 is not popular in Turkey, soccer is. And for most Europeans it is a tad out of their way and a Muslim country after all. Also traffic to the track apparently is very bad. Then again how bad can it be if nobody goes? I'll make sure to bring back some shots of your fav driver. You know the German one. Hulkenberg or something...
I'm a Turkey, i will be there once again this year. The track atmosphere is not going to be a patch on what Monaco was last weekend, but the nightlife in Istanbul is really great.. I have a paddock pass, but i always go out to the track to watch the F1 sessions.. If you spot me Andreas, come and say hi. I'm 6'3, short dark hair, and although im 32, the years have been kind to me I will be with a light brown haired ( highlighted im told), slim Brazilian girl who is 5'11, you will most likely spot her first
I agree, the track itself is my favorite by Tilke. Its the elevation changes that make it special, along with its good over taking possibility's and naturally Turn 8 (although you sit so far away due to run off on the out-side of turn 8, the spectacle from track side is reduced some what). I doubt being a Muslim country has anything to do with the lack of foreign fans attending, as Istanbul is very cosmopolitan, and Turkey as a whole has been a major player for European holiday makers for very long time. In fact, if its anything like recent years, a high percentage of the fans at the track are Western Europeans. The traffic in and around Istanbul is always bad, no matter if there is a race on or not
We need pictur's! Seriously, have fun - I haven't been in *years* (long before the GP), but remember Istanbul with fondness. Share the pix! Cheers, Ian
PM received and replied Your welcome to take and post pics of her, just try and do it on the sly, as her ego is big enough as it is ( If she reads this, i might be there alone hahahah)
