Spicy watched the bidding of the Mulsanne 0001 at Gooding last night with me, she's a fan.
Just look at the flabby butt on the Porsche Bananarama and the Bentley looks like a royal chariot compared to that Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Bananarama looks like hell. If the Cayenne was a camel with gingivitis, this is the back end of said camel.
Brooklands, while the best evolution of Arnage,is still just that:another version (like Azure) of that outdated car. The new car, while still keeping up with expectations of a stately, conservative ,true Bentley,is going to be dynamically and technologically advanced to a degree the Brookland could not even dream.
700 world sales? I figured that number would be a littler higher.. No doubt this car will be a major seller.
Precisely right. The Brooklands was the last new model of the Arnage era. And what a swansong. The saloon platform is always the harbinger of the other future models, i.e. enhanced saloons, convertible (Azure-replacement) and big GT coupe (Brooklands' eventual replacement). It helps, generally speaking, if you know where the designers and engineers are coming from. Image Unavailable, Please Login Now perhaps the huge headlights, with lower guarding fog lights, perilously high hood, cabin ending on the rear axle finishing to a swooping arc of a tail comes from. Bentley's requirements in 1930-31 were that the 8-liter could attain >100mph regardless of which coachwork the customer chose. Hence, power was always required to be "adequate". I'm guessing 800lbs/ft of torque at virtually any engine speed will feel pretty adequate. Interesting note: the 1930-31 8-Liter was limited to only 100 units total because of the world's unforeseen harsh economic climate. Deja vu
+1000000000000000000 (or the national debt) This car is bentely. That thing cold the continental is a VW. Its a great car and all... but it does ride on what underpins a Phaeton. Anyone who has ever owned an arnage and grabed the door handle of a continental GT will tell you that the CGT is not a bentely. It is the 3 series of bentelys. It is a fantastic car, looks very good, caries the badge well and is the volume seller... but it is not the tried and true British Bentley. Maybe I am crazy, but grab the door handle of an arnage vs the conti... There is only one car left standing in my opinion. The new car is a throwback to the 50s and early 60s bentelys. I personally believe those who don't recognize that will be the people who are only familar with Bentelys since about 2003... most didn't even know there was a car called the Arnage or the azure etc... Concerning the roofline... if you ask me... thats a bentley roof line. However, Bentely and Rolls have shared basic chassis, and architecture for a long time now. To me, and this is all my opinion, the Rolls phantom has a roof line similar to the silver seraph which... is based on the arnage... which was an evolution of the turbo R which was an evolution of the yada yada yada.... ok im done.
its likely going to be in excess of 400k... that should hold the sales down a bit... this isn't the continental GTi....sorry... i really dislike the continental GT...
I was told high $200k base price, with options in low $300k. Will find out real numbers soon.... Btw,don't hate the CGT Speed, best daily driver I've ever had, especially in Chicago bad weather.
I like it. Looks very good IMO. Wouldn't that be too close to the Continental GT in terms of pricing? From what I hear it will be around 350K Euros in Europe (roughly $500K).
Very interesting to see how they are going to price that car here. UK dealers were told that the new Ghost will be less expensive then a loaded Conti FS Speed (about $240k with CCBs). On the Arnage ,which had a base price around $240k,the options often added up to $60k-$70k,bringing the total to low $300k. I expect them to raise the base price but nothing dramatic.
I hear it said that Mulsanne will be marginally below the Phantom. I'm figuring 315-375 for real numbers.
We still have these cars priced much lower then in Europe. Roughly, what it cost in Euros,it cost the same # in $$ here.
First car sold for $500k, in Pebble Beach. http://www.worldcarfans.com/109081821109/first-2011-bentley-mulsanne-auctions-for-500k-video
Looks great with the lights on. Thanks for sharing that vid. Can't wait to see them in the usual suspects of paints: beluga, arctica, magnolia, sapphire, autumn, etc...
Wow... well, okay, this goes against everything I said before but that car looks a LOT better in that video then in the pictures. The lights aren't as big of a "put off" as they were in the pictures. The pictures really made the rims and the front bumper look prominent, when on the actual car they blend in quite nicely. Haha, I never thought I would type something like that about this car...
