Home Town boy, Buddy Guy would be a great start! BTW....I believe that he lives out in the South West 'Burbs. And has,(had?) a Red 328. Muddy Waters used to live in Westmont before he passed.
You guys don't care about Large Jazz boxes. I am just a prewar Epiphone and Gibson Guy pre 1965 (L5's, Es350's etc), boring. Hot stuff is solid bodies, not Archtops. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rick Nielsen and Cheap Trick.....Bunch of Rockford, Illinois Boys done good!.... I saw him at Byron Dragway last year. He is a partner on a Twin Hemi Front Engined Dragster. I know I have a picture of it somewhere..... And, have seen Cheap Trick many times throughout the Years. And Rick's wild, gazillion necked Guitars Cars and Guitars? Oh yeah. They definitely do go together.... Sammy Hagar and his Black Boxer. Eddie Van Halen and his Lambo's. Saw a Red 328 For Sale in Hemmings a few years back that was owned by Jon Bon Jovi. Saw a Blue 308 that was For Sale at the old St. Charles Motorsports, many years ago, that was owned by Billy Gibbons. ( ZZ Top) Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.... George Lynch, (Dokken, Lynch Mob, George is another one of my all time favorite Guitarists) Driving his Red 308 in an old Dokken Video. Lots more examples..... I saw Stevie Vai at the House of Blues a couple years back. He had a Guitar with a neck going out in each direction. And, he could play both necks at once! He was right in the middle, with each arm off in each direction....Now THAT was Cool!!!
Wolfgang. Do you know the Schenker Brothers? 2 of my all time Favorite Guitarists since the early '70's. (UFO and Scorpions) I try to see the Scorpions and Michael Schenker group every time they hit Chicago.
Tom, I love the pre war epiphone archtops. I owned the blonde Emperor non-cutaway on pg. 6 of american guitars as well as a few broadways. I've owned many early Gibsons and still own a '28 L5 which I will never sell. Would love to have a Loar model but.... Scott Chinery gave me a D'Angelico Mel Bay model which was 1 of 4 for selling his Testarossa (also threw in a J200). Unfortunately I traded them for a Pantera.
Oh no, I do care about & love this big jazz boxes. For you: (all instruments are sold long time ago and I only stored the pics for a wonderful reminder and to join them with other guitar lovers!) 1949 D`Angelico New Yorker 1959 D`Angelico New Yorker 1951 Epiphone 1989 Benedetto Fratello 1991 Camelone 1936 Gibson L 7 1946 Gibson L 5 1950 Gibson ES 5 1956 Gibson ES 350 TDN Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, know them both. Michael Schenker is IMO the better guitar slinger Rudolph......not bad but Talking about the Scorpions: check out ULI ROTH who once played for the Scorpions. IMHO one of the best guitar players (from Germany) I have ever heared! Uli Roth lived together with Monica Danneman before she saidly died. Monika D. was the last long time girlfriend from Jimi Hendrix. Monika and Jimi lived together in an appartment in London/UK. Uli & Monika were still living in the same JH appartment till she saidly died.
Not to take the discussion off guitars, but my all time favourite German (if not just the whole world) band is Triumvirat and later New Triumvirat. Mostly synthis though and one hell of a bad singer. So bad, that it is already good again.
Oh yeah, deinitely like Uli Jon Roth. He used to come through here once in awhile. But I haven't seen him lately... Yes, Michael is the bettter of the two....he can just mesmerize you as you watch him play. He (Thankfully...) comes through Chicago alot. At least once a Year. Can't forget Mathias Jabs of Scorpions, either. I like his playing, too. But if you ever come over to Chi-Town to visit. You must stop in and check out the Blues clubs. I am teaching my 8 Year old Son to play. I bought him a little 3/4 size Strat. and a little Crate Amp a couple of years ago. But, I am trying to teach him some Blues as the Foundation for his Playing. He says that he wants to play Rock and Heavy Metal. I told him that Rock is the Blues played faster. And Heavy Metal is the Blues played faster and much LOUDER!.... (ofcourse, it's much deeper than that. But, he's only 8...I'll teach him more as we go along. ) I played him some Blues Riffs. Then, I turned it up Loud and played some AC/DC riffs.....And, he now gets it!....
Wow! I haven't met anyone else who knows about Triumvirat in many many Years! Since the mid 1970's at least!
I'm equally wowed that an American would even know them. But then again they did have some tours in the US so some folks do know them indeed. They're barely known in Europe, yet IMHO wrote some of the finest melodies. Illusion on a double dimple, Spartacus, Pompei, Mediterranean Tales
Yes, heavier Synth than Floyd. Good stuff! I haven't heard any in decades. How about Hawkwind? Do you like them? Alot of people don't know that Lemme Kilmeister of Motorhead was in Hawkwind before. What a change. From spacey, psychedelic Music. To Raw, Hard/Punk/Metal Rock & Roll.
I thought I'd contribute something to keep this thread going. I have a collection, but here is my current main guitar, a Brian Moore C-55. It has Seymour Duncan pickups, piezo pickups, and MIDI pickups and preset switching. We had a photo shoot for a magazine (kinda like FHM or Maxim) at our studio recently, and one of the owners of the magazine also is part owner of a recently built local track / road corse country club, that many car clubs like to have events at. Anyway, you'll see more when the magazine comes out. Also, I'm organizing something with this magazine to have a photo shoot with models and some exotics, which will coincide with an upcoming video shoot. Anyway, my bad guitar story is that 18 years ago I bought a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Cherry Sunburst from a guy in Chicago who was a fireman, and said the guitar used to belong to Tommy Shaw from Styx, and that he had taken lessons from Tommy. The guitar was stolen from me at a show later that year. I collected some insurance from it, and then bought a 1978 Gibson Explorer, with curly maple finish and gold hardware. Sean, I'm laughing because the girl is hot and all, but I'm trying to check out the rack behind the rack! Where's your studio? That sucks about the stolen guitar. I had my first Strat stolen--it had no provenance, other than being my first, but it was a black/white ala Clapton and I had installed a humbucker in the bridge. Sucked. Insurance came through nicely, though. Let us know when the mag comes out.
The studio is located in Schaumburg, IL. The only music that is recorded there is my own and friends'. We're not a music recording studio. We restore classic films and television shows. But after a long day of saving history, it's nice to be able to walk down the hall and be able to rehearse with a band and have a full recording setup at our disposal.
Sean, I was waiting for you to jump on this thread!! I can confirm that there is some killer gear behind that gal. I think there is an Eventide unit back there if I am not mistaken. By all means keep us in the loop on the video shoot. Thanks. Vince C.
In the picture there are 2 Eventide units, an H3000 and a vintage analog 949. The missing rack above her head is an Eventide H4000 which is getting repaired.

Any Chicagoland guitar collectors still on here? I play/collect late 50's/EARLY 60's Gibson guitars. And always looking for more to play and collect! The 4 Amigos Guitar Show is this weekend in St. Charles, was thinking about driving the 612 out there for a look. (weather permitting) Anyone interested let me know.
