So as I sit here loafing on F-chat and having a drink... I listen to Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction ahhhh yes, the glorious days of Slash and Axel anyone else here a Guns N' Roses fan?
*waves* Wish they'd get back together, I know its a pipe dream but who knows maybe it'll happen. (I don't consider the current version of GNR to be quite GNR, its more like Axel N' Roses.)
I love them. I have all their albums. Axel has a voice like no other. I have Slash's Snakepit album. It's ok. I wish Axel would crank out his style of Rock again. He is missed on the rock scene
I have their greatest hits cd, and I want them to get back together and do a tour. The coolest part, is that there was a huge riot after the GnR concert got canceled in Vancouver.
Use your illusion 1 and 2 are one of the best set of albums put out. I have them on my IPOD. I play them in the Ferrari and while I am on the plane
Although I'm no huge fan (for instance, I have no clue what you guys are talking about with the new "axel 'n roses"), I just have to crank up the volume everytime I hear some of their songs ...
I like GnR a lot. They put on a great show, provided the crowd in into it! If they aren't then Axl gets pissed!!!!!
One of the greatest performing groups of all time....when they were sober enough to play, lol. Slashes new band Velvet Revolver headed by Scott Weiland (former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots) is pretty good too, but not quite like GnR. I reccomend checking them out if you liked GnR. Mark
Check the Velvet Revolver CD Contriband. All the boys from GNR less Axel with Scott Weiland from STP. One of the my favorite CDs I've bought in a while.
I think they are great on a studio album..but live, axel leaves alot to be desired. I had the unfortunat experiance to see them live..terriable is being kind. Illusion 1 and 2 are great albums and Destruction is a classic..but live they just couldn't pull it off. Slash is a wicked guitar player and he was the only one of the bunch that sounded good.
DONT DAMN ME WHEN I SPEAK A PIECE OF MIND CUZ SILENCE ISNT GOLDEN WHEN YOUR HOLDING IT INSIDE... I HAVE BEEN WHERE IVE BEEN AND SEEN WHAT IVE SEEN I PUT THE PEN TO THE PAPER CUZ ITS ALL PART OF ME... SO DONT DAMN ME! (MC FARLANE has a nice Slash figure! gonna put it on my X-Mass list) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Indeed. They are one of the reasons I started playing guitar, which in itself led to me being where I am today. For me, 'Appetite' is the perfect rock album. UYI 1 & 2, are close behind. And his current work, when listened to against the background of crap being produced today, sounds great. I just wish he would finish 'Chinese Democracy' (which is supposed to finally come out first quarter, '06). Some interesting things I have read over the years, which I will have to paraphrase... - Moby referred to Axl as not only the single most talented musician he'd ever met, but the single most talented artist he has ever worked with. (Moby was going to produce the new album, as it existed in the late 90's.) - Zakk Wylde said working with Axl was like nothing else he'd ever worked on...basically he also felt that Axl was world's ahead of anyone else. Years later he was working on his own album in the same studio and passed the room that GnR were working in...he said it was like passing a music store. Dozens of guitars, a few grand pianos. Good times. - A former Geffen A&R rep recently gave an interview, answering questions about when he was assigned to GnR (late 90's version). He stated that at that time, Axl had a few albums worth of material nearly finished, with only mastering left to complete, and then that was scrapped. He also said that Geffen records was pretty well situated around Axl, with no expense being too great to grant Axl in order to finish the album. So, what can I say...I love GnR. - Chris
Velvet Revolver is great. It's a completely different sound of rock than everything that's out right now. To me they take it back to the basics of what the definition of rock and roll is. Plus STP is one of my favorite bands. But yes, GNR ****ing rocks out! To me they're sound is still as new an innovative today as it was in the late 80's/early 90's. I still remember humming/singing paradise city walking to school in 2nd or 3rd grade.
I'll vouch for the Montreal incident, which is why (since then) I turn off the radio anytime G'n'R comes on. Then again, it isn't fair to crucify the entire band on account of Axle (prima-donna-dip-****) Pose...who I hope dies penny-less and insane in a gutter.
You should also add the wonderful accolades that James Hatfield extends to Axle Pose in "A Year & a Half in the Life of Metallica" I particularily loved when he went throught the G'n'R dressing room requirements. Axle ahead of his time??? Gimme a break!!!!!
