I have been wondering if anyone on here hashes but have always forgotten to ask. For those that don't know, hashing is a running club that has a hare, someone that lays a flour (or chalk or toliet paper) trail and harriers, the runners, follow the trail. Most of the time the trail ends either at a bar or another location that has a large amount of alcohol. I have been hashing for about six months but haven't been able to go for a while because of my schedule. So, to all the hashers, drink it down down!
It happens all around! Geez, just in Atlanta alone there are SEVERAL clubs. Almost every night of the week has a certain club running, then there are two-for-tuesdays which is $2 per mile - running 2 miles, so you pay $4 and get pretty buzzed. Then you think about full moon hashes, new moon hashes, etc. PAP, it took me three seconds to find the Aussie page on hashing! http://www.hhh.asn.au/index.html Check it out, it can get addictive, especially if your area has as many hashes as we do each week. Micheal, I live intown, right near Georgia State so I usually only go to the hashes that are ITP but there are all of over the place. Go to www.atlantahash.com and click on forum, then look at 'Other Area Hashes'. That will have all the hashes in the area but that site is great at telling people what it is about. Feel free to come out Tuesday night or Thursday night, there are hashes on both those nights. It is $4 for Tuesday (plus money for food if you want to eat) and $7 for Thursday but you go to someone else's house and they cook for you. Oh yeah, and at these hashes, you get more beer than usual. Let me know if you want to come, I need to fill you in on some rules, nothing too bad, lol!
I owe my first marathon to the hashers: At about mile 19, I hit the wall. Bad. Did the walk/jog thing up to about mile 21. Was feeling really bad. The hashers had a tent set up at mile 21. This guy (hasher) comes up to me, hands me a beer, and exclaims "only 5 miles left". I downed the beer, and immediately the realization hit me that there were only 5 miles left. I could run 5 miles easily. And I did, and wound up finishing my marathon. So, here's a toast to the hashers! Cheers! Dom
I might have ask you a couple of questions in the coming weeks. I am running my first marathon on March 25 and I haven't been able to train like I should have. I was up to running 15 miles straight but I haven't done any more so I am changing over to the run/walk idea, hopefully that will work. Believe it or not, Atlanta has a ton of hills and everyone is saying that the course is going to be tough!
When I lived in B'ham, Al, I had some friends that were very devoted hashers 10 years ago. I saw some pictures from the runs and they looked very interesting. Knowing them they are still hashing today.
Yeah, I did a search before I started the thread, couldn't find anything on 'hasher' or 'hashing' so if there is a thread out there, they used different wording. I looked up 'hash' but none of the thread titles were about running.
Me, too, what with ah, vague, hazy recollections first passing through an ornate chillum & a buzz that lasted centuries...

On, on!! Do as many long runs as you can no more often than once per week until the 18th. Don't run during the week of the mary. Start out WAY slower than your long run pace. Walk the aid stations. Start eating and drinking early. If you pace and eat and drink, you will never hit a 'wall' but you will find it requires increasing effort during the last 6 miles or so. Smile and remember: pain is temporary, but pride lasts forever! Good luck! Are you doing Tybee?
Thanks man!!!!! I just started back running in June and I have worked my way up doing a 5k, 10k, Half-Marathon and soon a Marathon. If the ING doesn't kill me, I am going to try for the 50K coming up soon. A couple of friends are doing a triathlon in the middle of May but I don't know if I could do that, I am just not a fan of swimming for so long! I didn't know about the Tybee but looked it up and I guess it has already passed and they have information up about next year. I will try to do it, Tybee is a awesome place but I am just not sure where I am going to be then I just had an interview yesterday that would keep me in Atlanta but I am looking all over. Let me know about any other races that you know of.
