Looking for a helmet for track, autox, and occasional open-wheel racing. Any stores around here where I can try on brands like Bell, Arai, etc?

Cant get track helmets at a motorcycle place?

Ive bought a LOT of motorcycle helmets and the golden rule is buy from mail order, not from a dealer. They rob you blind.

Motorcyle helmets and auto helmets are actually rated differently. Motorcyle helmets are rated with an 'M[current year]', while auto helmets are SA rated 'SA'[current year]. Not sure about motorcyle helmets but most car clubs allow you to use the helmet for 10 years from the year the helmet was made.

Online shops are probably priced the best, but you should really at least try them on at a store as helmets do not fit everyone the same, and you definitely want a comfortable helmet. With that said, most online places have pretty good return policies, so can be returned or exchanged w/o much hassle.

    Some good online places are:

    www.saferacer.com
    www.cdoc.com
    www.soloracer.com
    www.helmetcity.com

    Good luck!

I got mine at UUC Motorwerks. They are an authorized Arai dealer. Let me know if you need the contact there. Basically use the sizing chart at safe racer or bell's website. Its pretty accurate.

Thanks guys. Like Arwin said, I'd like to check out the stores to at least try on different helmets, even if I might buy them online to get a better price.

BTW, I'm a newbie when it comes to helmets - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101943. If anyone has any additional advice for me in that thread, please let me know.

Try Driving Impressions. I got my GForce helmet there as cheaply as any of the websites and they carry many other brands as well. This way you get to try it on first. They also run the stores at Limerock and Summit point.

They had Simpson and G-Force there as well. Pricing was fairly close to online shops. For a proper fitting helmet, its worth the premium.

Bruce has a good selection, and he knows his stuff, and decent prices too. Driving Impressions is about 5 minutes away from Bruce, and they have a good selection of G-Force helmets, as well as driving suits, gloves, etc. I'd go to D.I. first, try some things on, check the prices, and then go to Bruce. My guess is, you'll end up buying from Bruce's. And if you get a chance, talk to Bruce himself about racing and track experiences. He's a trip and a half.
