Any idea why my tail light surrounds would be black?

Never saw that before, maybe a mod by a previous owner? Would install the reflective red ones. Probably no harm done

 

Though not correct, I actually like it. Looks good on a white. Wonder what other color it would look good with.
Keep it that way if you like it. Pick up the correct ones and set aside in a nice safe place.

 

There was a long time period where it was really impossible to get original replacements.. im guessing a previous owner did this to either "repair" damage to the originals or more likely, when your euro conversion was done they could either not find original replacements or didnt want to spend the money.

 

I have seen a photo (many years ago), of a red LP500S with black tail light panels. Compared to the usual translucent red, I thought it looked a little cheap. Almost as though the original pieces had fallen off...

However, I have to say it does look somewhat better against the white - although it would still not be my choice.

 

In this case, especially considering the red interior, I would go back to red tail light surrounds as well.

 

I like it the way it is, definitely a more modern look. But of course get the OEM parts while you can like others have said

 

Are they painted black, or did they simply tint them? In the case of tint it should be easily removed. Be weary of lights you find on places like ebay that claim they are genuine, many are not.

 

Just switch them back to the correct OE red reflectors and be done with it. There are plenty available. There needs to be a more cohesive movement to get these cars back to their original specifications and reverse the decades of modification vandalism that was done to them. It will collectively uplift the entire Countach market and increase the significance and stature of the model.

 

My guess is that they simply made some filler pieces and painted them black after they removed the typical American rear surround that was done to the US market cars.

Someone must have made them or possibly used a replica part.

The black car looked exactly like yours before we swapped them out. I just had him send me his black frames so I could exactly match the stud location and they bolted right in.

 

Your red ones are the way to go!
