Mattius/Tony, In the UK "Car Tax" @ 8.33% applied to the purchase of the car. "VAT" @ 10%(Value Added Tax) was new in 1973 and applied to the "basic" + "car tax" cost. I am not clear as to why the headlight covers and nose bar did not carry the "car tax". It may be that these were simply classed "accessories available for" even though they are listed as "extras available for". This may imply they were not factory fitted, however, difficult to conclude just from this brochure. Curiosuly the brochure details to the same degree the BB, 365 GT4, 308 GT 246GT and 246GTS however, it only lists extras available for the 246GT>S. Kevin
I would still put the 246 into the top tier of beautiful cars. I think there are several '60s Ferraris and possibly the E-Type Series 1 that are more attractive, but they're all among the best designs. If I can fault anything on the 246, it would be that fender curves over the wheels are slightly 'forced' and 'lumpy'. On the later 308, the flow of the fenderline through the tail is better balanced and more fluid, although the rubber bumpers ruin the effect by the time you get to either end.
I would agree with everything said here. I also put in the 275 GTB in the most beautiful category. It's simple yet powerful and very well proportioned. It's also difficult to find any flaw in the 275, aside from maybe saying the E type came out before it. And, you can see design cues into the Dino from the 275. There is a strong resemblance in the nose and even the rear. More credit should be given to the 275 for creating the Dino shape 3 years earlier.
Its not from this angle. As I said earlier, the 3-4 rear view of the rear fender isn't perfect. Its a wonderful design.... but you did ask for flaws. I agree with Bullfighter.
In my humble opinion, this thread has gone too far and is bordering on mental and aesthetic masturbation. Who the hell started it, anyway?
Oh, come on! Mental and aesthetic masturbation is what F-chat is all about! As long as we stay away from literal masturbation in this thread, we're fine.
Graham, If you look at my first posted thread, "Greetings," from August, 2008, you will see that the late John Corbani very kindly posted pics. of both my Dinos. He later used the picture of the front of the red one to illustrate the "sharpening" technique. Fred
