I once again changed my major, well, its been a while now, but I'm Industrial Design. If you don't mind, show some of your work, previous or present.
heeps of websites; why ask here ? coroflot.com cardesignnews.com heaps of portfolios there for you to look at.
I haven't tried any, but that's all I was guessing. Not sure. Thanks for those links. I just wanted to look at some samples.
I'm an industrial designer. I graduated in 1978 from ASU. I was a math major before I changed majors. Best decision I ever made but I have to say... for a lot of people it's a tough road.
Where do you work now? I am going to be working my ass off. Must get a 3.0 GPA and have to compete with a bunch of other ID students.
My cousin is an industrial designer. He is 29-30, started in automotive design, got laid off, went to work designing kids toys, did a great jub, laid off with budget cuts, now he is working here, www.benchmarkcraftsmen.com/ he seems to enjoy it but he is on his 3rd gig in 6-7 years through no fault of his own.
Hi, I´m also an industrial designer (1996-2000) Right now I´m a part time I.D. teacher at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, and also working in some private projects, mostly fiberglass, I own a scale model company, specialized in motorsports models and stuff mostly, but we do some other industrial design apart. I´m updating my portfolio right now, since I´ve only uploaded my illustration artwork to the site, but will be uploading the rest in this next month. Nice to met other Industrial designers here in the chat. Best regards Ever Lopez www.coroflot.com/jelpspeed www.exclusivescale.com
jelpspeed . . . your artwork is outstanding! I love the lusso painting and would love to have that hanging in my living room. I am an industrial design student with about a year left before I graduate, and I am currently looking for an internship to advance my knowledge. Being an industrial design student has been a great experience for me. Not only do you get to design future products and processes, but you are taught how to use your mind to conceptualize and create revolutionary ideas that can improve the quality of living. One thing you need to prepare yourself for is the competition among your classmates. Working as a team is always a good way to create good concepts, but you have to be at the top of the class to get attention from professionals. Also, becoming friends with some teachers is a plus, as they can help you advance your skills even when class is over.
Hey! I'm glad you posted this thread! I'm barely starting my classes right now(July 11th). I am starting at The Art Institute of Orange County, and let me tell you, it was a bit tough getting in...but I got in. (2 well written essays which are reviewed by a panel, a couple recommendations, +your determination and personality. They judge you upon that and put it in account) I am a bit weary about my "competition". There is teamwork involved (or so I expect) but I also expect some kind of major competition going on behind eachothers' backs. I am focused on Automotive design, which I love, but am open to other aspects. Cost for schooling is Killer! $89K on completion. Its a BS degree, and only 3 years. (4 year rolled into 3) The Current Salary is starting at $45k a year for beginners (1-4 years work) and $60k (5-7 years work) and $65-75k (7+ years) Correct me if im off or wrong folks. It could be different by City/State as well. San Francisco I know pays higher, but that is maybe because the cost of living there is a wee-bit higher. Thanks again Gary. I love working in teams/groups, just collaborating grows the mind to greater ideas. I am competitive, but to an extend that I give just the critical aspects needed. No B/S anywhere. If I don't like it, I will tell you, if you don't like my idea, I will take gladly. Good luck to all my colleagues. We have quite a journey ahead of us.
