Looks like my step-dad had really gotten bit by the ferrari bug. Ever since he was surprised with the renovated 3.2 mondial last fall he has been secretly looking for other italian mates to put into the garage. He has already secretly redone the garage floor, raised/altered the garage door height and purchased a lift. So know he emails me about this 1988 328 GTB on eBay with just under 18K miles. I haven't had a chance to due any investigating because of the holiday weekend but I was hoping that someone in the are might have a clue about the car's history. The VIN is ZFFXA19A8J0076632

Thanks for any help until I can call my contact up there in PA on Tuesday. We've definitely got another enthusiasts on our hands.

    Take Care

I can help you out. If you look at an old post of mine, you will see Steve at Brandywine (now called MainLine Porsche) had originally secured that car for me about 3 or 4 months ago. However, at the time I was looking for a GTS, so I turned the car down. I recall that they got the car from a very wealthy local owner who had a small car collection. He had purchased it for 56K a couple of years earlier from a dealer in Arizona. Brandywine has some service records indicating a few thousand dollars worth of work. The car looks really good (to me at least) l with a couple of small dings and cracks in the paint that are fairly normal for original paint of this age. There are also a couple of areas where the paint seems to be slightly discolored, maybe due to an overanxious buffer (the discoloration may only be visible under the unforgiving florescent lights) I don't recall anything remarkable about the interior except that the plastic face over the clock is extremely scuffed, like it was hit with a brillo pad.

The engine starts right up and the only issues I recall with the car were non-working headlights (wouldn't pop up). They may have it fixed by now. As I recall, the owner didn't really want to part with it, but they offered him the chance to purchase a Porsche GT3, so he agreed to trade the car. As for the dealer itself, we have purchased a Cayenne from them, and the experience was very positive. Steve seems to be a very honest guy and really went above and beyond trying to get me the car I wanted. If you want me to talk to the guys down there, take some pictures, etc, it would be my pleasure. Just PM me...I may even be able to give you more details that I rather not post openly.

    Good luck!!!

This is a relatively interesting car. The vin# indicates it should have the updated suspension, but it does not. There is also a GTS in the US that should have but doesn't. In any event, it was offered for sale in 1990 for 119K with 11K on the clock. It then turned up at Ferrari of Scottsdale in July '07 offered at 68K with 17K miles. This was a stiff asking price. Then ebay last month. Spend $25. and run a carfax for more info. BTW, all 328 GTB's are great cars. I speak from experience.

Absolutely! I locate and purchase pre-owned Porsches for an independent dealer and Carfax is simply the beginning. Basically, it's pretty good way to verify mileage history but it is far from full-proof. I have inspected many cars with clean Carfaxes that have been hit......hard! The only way to be totally sure is to have a professional who is familiar with paint and bodywork to check the car over. This isn't necessarily the expertise of a mechanic either so a PPI may not cover you copmpletely.
