A friend of mine is looking into bidding on the '82 GTS currently on ebay: Ferrari : 308 GTSI in Ferrari | eBay Motors Does anybody know the car or have any opinions on it? The mileage is a little low for my taste (27k), and unless I'm crazy in this pic it looks like the color of the door doesn't match the rest of the car. http://i1358.photobucket.com/albums/q778/clearchoicervnew/1982%20FERRARI%20308GTSI%20-%20APRIL%206/IMG_6233800x532_zpsd37933cc.jpg It looks like it was switched over to QV wheels, but otherwise it looks pretty clean/stock. The trim work looks nice, though the seats could use a refinishing. Any other thoughts?
Should always check them out in person to really understand the condition of course. To me mileage really depends on when it's been driven - if it hasn;t been driven much recently there's a higher chance of items that will need replacement or problems that have gone unnoticed. If it's been driven frequently recently and serviced as needed, it should be pretty well sorted out. There are a few modifications from stock - the wheels are reproduction 16", it's had euro spoiler put on the front and the targa top has been painted. Front seat does look a little rough and they mention tears at the bottom - could be fine with a little cleaning if your friend wants a driver. Not sure what a new ac compressor would cost, some don't care but I certainly like the ability to get at least a little cooling when it's hot. Could be a good car, as always, inspection and records will tell a lot
Does it appear that the driver's side radiator cooling fan is spinning or simply not there? Either way, something's going on there
Either the passenger door isn't closed, or doesn't fit properly. Also, the car looks to have been repainted (see overspray on build plate on driver's door jamb) and the paint on the passenger door doesn't appear to match all that well (although maybe the lighting and angle account for the color difference.) It's impossible to make any conclusions based on photo on eBay, though. Probably best to go see the car before making any kind of offer. As far as the Magnum PI association, I don't recall that they ever used a deep spoiler car on the show, and I would check the VIN against the list of known cars from the show posted on FChat (too lazy to search this one, but I recall they are listed.) Seems like a random claim that the seller can't substantiate
Just FYI, this car was on eBay and "sold" last month. Deal must have fallen out as it is back again. I don't know if its been around more than that. I had made a "low ball" bid at that time and then started receiving fraudulent "Second Chance" notices that the car could still be purchased. When I contacted the Seller about it, they informed be that the car had been sold. Something has been going on here. Definitely wouldn't by this car without checking it out in person.
Just please don't believe that "it was on Magnum PI" bull****. I love the part where they mentioned that they were still waiting for proof... Sure. Whatever.
I'm not trying to defend them & I have no connection to this car in any way, but the ad does say that the car repainted recently so there's nothing sneaky there. Regarding Magnum, I agree it's unlikely the car was used on screen though I suspect the euro spoiler is a later addition anyway so I guess it's possible. But the ad actually states that the car may have been owned by the production house and cars were made available to the stars (at least Tom S.) and the producers by Ferrari so it could be one of those. Still, I think they were actually still owned by Ferrari and loaned or leased. Regardless, I don't think it would (or rather, should) add a dollar of value it it was.
ZFFAA02A5C0040927 Winning bid in May, 2010 was $19,500. Back then the car was in Cincinnati, OH and had 29,500 miles. http://media.collectorcarpricetracker.com/auction_data/2010/5/10/330430144128/330430144128.pdf See post 119 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/374906-original-magnum-pi-308-displayed-universal-studios-florida-6.html#post142230747 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I also see that the same seller tried to sell it on EBay in April as well. Seems to be a problem in selling it.
That drivers seat has been way,way further than 27,000 miles to me it looks like a pussed up money pit beware!!
Seems to be a problem with the mileage. According to the May, 2010 eBay ad, when the car sold then it had 29,500 miles and the seller claimed that it was off by 8,000+/- miles. The odometer now shows 27,000+ miles so that makes it really in the 35,000 range, maybe more. Its a big red flag to me when the mileage does not match up. In 2010, that owner also claims that he was the 3rd owner of the car and owned it for the past 14 years with no mention of any Magnum connection. He would have had the car since 1986 so any Magnum connection would have been very fresh at that time.
I am telling you, that car has no Magnum connection. That show probably used 15 308's over 9 years. 20 tops. And all 600 of them have been on Ebay over the past decade... see my point?
