IF it's a certified steel valve guide car, I could see 78.9... Sounds fair to me.

 

Given the fact that its a GTB, the color combination which is very desirable, the below 15k miles, and the immaculate condition I would say at 79k it's a good buy.
The only thing that in my eyes and I would say the majority of buyers opinions to be a down side would be the F1 transmission.
It also does not have shields! Which is a very big plus! As there are no issues with having them improperly placed, damaging the paint...

If your looking for an F1 this is the nicest example I have seen in along time, of course this is just judging from the pictures and one should see it in person and have a thorough PPI done by and experienced mechanic.

 

I emailed him about this car the other day and told him to check with Robbie about pricing.

 

Pending results of PPI at Auto Gallery Ferrari, I should have this beauty in my garage soon.

The car was relisted, again @ $78,900.

I made an offer and accepted the counter, pending PPI.

This waiting is terrible!!!

Any suggestions on Transport from California to Texas?

Intercity?
Horseless Carriage?

In regards to transport, drive the sucker home. I hear there is some good asphalt between here and there to test your new horse on. Airfare and gas on the return will be about as much as enclosed transport, so why the hell not? Plus, you'll be able to give the car a once-over before taking final possession of it.

And yes, the waiting is terrible, but isn't that a good amount of the fun? Congrats on the potential purchase, the 355 is a real beast. If you got this car under 78K, I am quite jealous. Now is the time to buy these cars. cheers, cuneo

I thought about driving, but I have too many obligations at this point to make it work.

I would not even consider this car without its apparent provenance.
Hopefully the PPI will be enough due-diligence to confirm that I have the "right" car.

 

Horseless Carriage are IMO the best.

 

I am leaning this way.

Talked with one of their operators and they seem very professional.
She stated that front-door delivery should be within 7 days of pick-up.

Waiting on PPI, should be done today.

PPI shows that the clutch, while not abused, is 85% worn.
Also states that there is an apparent vacuum leak causing one of the exhaust bypass valves to stick.

Dealer says this is common and affirms that the car was not driven hard to get this result.

Quoted $3100 to fix.

Thoughts??

I will try to get seller to have clutch/exhaust-valve done prior to delivery at his expense.
Any other nuggets of wisdom for a first timer?

 

If that's the only thing wrong with it and the seller won't fix it you need to ask yourself if it's worth it to pass it up and keep looking. Will you find something better? maybe, maybe not. 3k is really not that much in my opintion if there are NO other problems. You could spend that much if not more with your time and other PPI's..

We're working it out.

After talking with Mike at Norwood, I am confident this car is the right one for me.
Less than $2,000 and the rest of the car is in immaculate shape mechanically and cosmetically.

PPI shows less than 5% leakdown in every cylinder (mostly 3-4%) with very good compression, too.
Interior is perfect, no sticky console, no leather shrinkage, all books, tools, keys, covers, etc., etc...
Paint is perfect, no rock chips, door dings, even the undertray and front are skid-free!!

This car will be great to enjoy on the twisty back-roads of East Texas.

Vegas Guy makes a sound point about PPI expense and finding the "right" car.

Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills charged $1200 for the PPI.
I am not real happy with the report as it was presented (the results were great).
It looks like henscratch and very unprofessional for the cost IMHO.

The main thing to me was the mechanical inspection and that seems to have been very thorough.

Horseless Carriage should be able to pick the car up late next week.

We did work out the clutch issue - it's all good!!!!

 

Congratulations on your new car. It is gorgeous, but then all 355's are so. My general reactions are that for that price, the dewaler should have replaced the clutch. That price for a PPI was obscene. Half that would have been too much IMO. It's done, whatever. Just enjoy the thing now.

 

I took the opportunity to shave a little more off the price of the car and have a chance to begin a relationship with Norwood.

They gave me a better quote on the job anyway.

NOW the real waiting begins.
