I am looking to get a Carrera GT. I was looking for opinions regarding any issue with the car that I should be looking out for. Also, any difference in the model year 2004 and 2005 (were there only 2 model years brought to the US?). Any difference price wise between different colors (is silver the most common color?) or model year (the car is 8 to 9 years old, so besides mileage, does the model year make any difference in price?). Does anyone know the US production number in terms of the color? Any comment would be appreciated.

From a fan that's never owned one:

    Get the Ruf lift.

Learn to use the clutch correctly.

There's new rubber out there that takes a lot of the widow maker character away.

I have one. Main thing to learn about is clutch condition. Get a PPI and have the clutch measured. If new, should be close to 31mm, IIRC. There were only 04s and 05s and pricing is color dependent. Again, IIRC, close to 80% were made in GT silver so other colors are comparatively rare. I think you will find 05s a bit more expensive just because they are the last year of production. I have a color production chart somewhere but it will take me a while to find it.

With all due respect to Scud, I don't think you need a nose lift - especially in HOU. Learn how to "crab" properly and you don't need to lift it.

I also agree with searching Rennlist. I'm over there too and everyone else knows way more than me.

Tires are expensive and you have to keep the battery charged, otherwise it will die and cost you $980 to replace (did I mention the battery is $180?).

Also in the hunt for CGT. Found an interesting CGT thread at Teamspeed.com and you may enjoy reading all the content there. Agree Rennlist is a good source. Happy hunting. Have a color in mind?

    Best,

Thanks, I will go to Teamspeed to take a look. Silver is nice but it is also more common and I only see either silver, yellow or black listed for sale so far. Kind of like red but I have not seen a red one for sale yet. Must not be a common CGT color. What do you think of red?

Think red is fine. Looking for black or white. Have too many red cars in the collection at this point. Best of luck with your search.

Did any of you guys that were looking in the last few months finding any good deals there? I did not realize the US only got 04 and 05 cars. I am also looking for red or black car and will look at some of the listed sites. Thanks for the links!

Depends on what you feel is a good deal...the market for these cars is somewhat volatile. There's a lot of speculation on these cars,
    so hard to tell.
I'm pretty close on a car.
