I am tempted by a beautiful black/black 575 F1 Fiorano that I have been offered recently (carbon bucket seats, ceramic brakes, 19'' split rims...). The car only has 6,000 miles with one owner.

Since I've heard so many horror stories of broken F1 gearboxes and fried clutches on the Maserati forum, I'd like to know what the situation is with the 575. Are there any known durability/reliability issues? How long will the clutch really last (no city driving, mostly mountain roads and tracking)? On my 550 it has reached 37,000 miles with no problems whatsoever, but it's a manual not an F1...

    Thanks
    Andrea

    Hi Andrea

Thought the Black car was sold? sounds fantastic if it's still available :)

For info, my Clutch was checked at the last service (14k Miles) and it was 30% worn, car has now done nearly 18k miles and it still feels fine

    Hi Mark,

unfortunately the one I'd been looking at (which was blue, year 2003 and had 20,000 miles) is gone, that was a bargain for a 575 Fiorano at £60,000. There is another Fiorano at £62,000 with only 9,000 miles, but it is silver/blue, a nice combination but not "special" enough perhaps. On the other hand, I absolutely love this black one I've been shown recently: it's got the GTC grille, the big brakes, the carbon bucket seats and it's black on black. It looks mean and evil, I love it! It's also a late 2004, and has less than 6,000 miles. This car is more expensive at £68,500 which is only £5,000 less than the 360 Challenge Stradale I tested recently.

Between the two of them I really can't decide. I am looking for a discount since I buy cash, so I guess whoever gives me the best discount wins... but what do you think of depreciation? I'm almost positive the 360CS will stay rock solid for years, but the 575?

    Cheers
    Andrea

PS - Haven't got the money yet anyway... the cars could both be gone by the time I've got the cash!

    Andrea,

I understand you've driven your 550 a lot on longer trips - are you planning to use this car in the same vein? If so, go with the 575. But if not, the 360CS is awesome. Still remember that sound when I followed one a couple of years ago in Johannesburg.

    Good luck deciding!

Your Head should choose the 360CS, the Heart....... the 575, you'll miss the torque of the V12 :)
