Yea, I missed Pchops track days also. They were on a Friday and I couldn't get away.

If there is something closer, preferably indoors that would be great. Anyone know of one besides the one in LI?

The one in LI is called Striker (I think). The karts are more for kids.

The Montreal indoor track was intense. Actually, there was an indoor Montreal track with a huge Schumacher hemet in the middle of the track. It had many tight twisty turns, but the karts were geared pretty low and they 'felt' fast out of the corners. They time you also.

There is another larger indoor track out in the Montreal boondocks with faster corners.

We also visited an outdoor kart track with a nice straight and plenty of gravel run-off.

The most intense Karting experience by far is Shifter Karting. Those that have tried them know what I'm talking about. Shlt-face intense acceleration and braking. Feels like sub 4 second 0-60, and must top out at 60 or 70 with that gearing. 125cc 6 speed sequential. You only use the hand clutch from idle, all other shifts you simply lift the throttle briefly and shift on the bar inder the wheel: pull back for up, push down for down shifting. Two disc brakes up front, one disc in the back. We used to rent these at the old Bridgehamton track. There is another near Woodbury Commons.

It's been a coule of years but I'd love to shifter kart again this spring. It's costly to rent these things. I remember $450. for 3 hours or so.

Oh yea. There is a cool style of karting called Endurance. I've never attended. But I think it's a 6 hour race with qualifying and all and multiple drivers. So I think 4 or 6 guys make a team with each car.

If the karting place on LI is in Centerreach and has a game room, it is kind of cheesy. That is if its the same place I am referring to. Figure-8 track, pretty much gas-powered bumper cars as they dont yell to much when some 12 year old spins you out....

There is this place in east hanover, NJ as well.Forget about what you see in the pictures, I've been there and it is a lot of fun with a nice twisty circuit which you can actually pass on unlike Strike in LI. Not the place to go if you wanna be the next Senna but a cool way to kill a few hours in the winter.........

    Thanks for the input!

I'm not far from Strike. Never been but i know many people who've been - including friends who've taken their girlfriends - thus not what i'm looking for.

I was looking for the ****-faced acceleration and braking Gus Technik is referring to. The Woodbury Commons location would be perfect since my girlfriend lives 15 minutes from there. I'll research this one and post it (or if anybody has info on it, please post).

Then again, the Montreal track sounds good too. My buddies and I go up for the GP every year. With that, we're now thinking of going up on the Wednesday morning before (we usually arrive in Montreal Thursday afternoon) and spending the day at the track.

Hey Racerx3317, how fast are those carts?

The last time i went which was a bit ago they had two types of karts. The older ones which i had driven before a few times and were not bad at all. The newer ones seemed much faster and accelerated pretty well. Now they have these two people karts which are probably just for kids so i wouldn't even bother. All in all not to bad for entertainment value and a quick racing fix in the long winter off season. I think the track layout is what makes it interesting. There are a couple passing areas there and you have to really drive the circut to be quick. Strike is flat all the way around and even if you are faster than someone it's almost impossible to pass there. The only time i tried i hit the guy in front me. Try it one day and let me know, maybe we could organise something one day if you like it.

Thought this might be of interest to some of you.

    Skip Barber Kart Endurance Championship

    WIN A SKIP BARBER SCHOOL!!
No Experience Or Equipment Needed - Just Arrive & Drive!

OVRP.com would like to announce a new 6 race Skip Barber Arrive & Drive Kart Endurance Championship Series for 2006 that will be awarding Skip Barber School scholarships to the year end points champions and is taking place exclusively at Oakland Valley Race Park's 1/2 mile karting specific asphalt road course in Cuddebackville NY.

The Skip Barber Arrive & Drive Kart Endurance Championship series will be using OVRP's new fleet of Birel Endurance Racing Karts which will all be equally prepared by OVRP mechanics. The endurance kart races will be 6 hours in length and each event will consist of 12 teams with multiple drivers on each team making live pit stops and driver changes throughout the race. Each team's best 4 out of the 6 races will count toward the year end points championship. Each member (up to four) of the year end points championship winning team will receive a scholarship to a Skip Barber school.

Participants may register as a team or as an individual and may compete in just one race or more then one race. No experience or equipment is needed as OVRP will supply everything. Just Arrive & Drive.

    Hi Craig,

If I read it correctly, the price for a team of four is $1200, which consists of 6 races @ 6hrs./ea, correct?

This includes all equipment, insurance, etc.?

    Hello:

    Thank you for your question.

The pricing is per 6hr. race event and it includes everything but pit passes which are $12 per person. Advance registration is required with a 50% deposit. The balance is due on the day of the event.

So, it would be $1200 per team per event. You may have 2 to 6 drivers on a team and each person must purchase a pit pass the day of the event for $12 per person.

You do not have to race the entire series. You may compete in just 1 event or more then one event.

    Thanks,
    Craig DeMaio
