Speaking of Daytona -- wish our boys from http://www.teamseattle.com all the best at the 24hrs this year. They've done an *outstanding* job of raising nearly $2m for our local childrens hospital over the last 9 years. Fellow f-chatter and Ferrari enthusiast WillD is one of the racers. They're fielding 2 GT3 this year.

Great true story Mark! Thanks for sharing these wonderful tales with all of us!
Your friend went to work/drive for a Japanese automobile manufacturer after this....right? ;) :) Today he would be a racing school instructor at "Rodger's" venue/facility???
...Don't worry, I'll keep their identities for myself!

Best regards

Yes, it's still the case today
- Bugatti track = permanent circuit
- The big one was used for 24 hours of LM
- True there was a GTP class as mentioned and Rondeau won it with is Rondeau M378 in 78 !
- the 2003 1000km of LM were on the small circuit = Bugatti track and Tom K with the Audi Goh won ...
- Never heard about Roland L. as driver here at LM...
regards
Thierry
"I suspect that T.V. being a medium is neither rare nor well done."
Jack, it is a joke, a play on words.

In the early days of radio it was believed that in order for the signal to propagate it had to pass through a substance or a ‘medium’; a radio could not work in a vacuum any more than the tide could rise and fall without an ocean. In order to explain how the sun and the stars’ light and electromagnetic radiation passed through space to our planet it was concluded that space itself was filled with ether.

Thanks to J.J. Thompson and his son we gained a rough understanding of how energy passes through a vacuum. In spite of this change in thinking radio and television still give a nod to their historical origins and are knows as ‘mediums’.

In America if one orders a steak it can come either rare, medium or well done.

Thus, combining the two disparate concepts, if T.V. is a medium, it is neither rare nor well done.

Add to that the word "rare" as in uncommon, and "well done" as in uncommonly good and you've got all the bases covered.

The quote “Television: A medium. So called because it's neither rare nor well done.” is attributed to Ernie Kovacs.

" - Never heard about Roland L. as driver here at LM...
regards
Thierry"

...interesting. All these guys heard it ( and some are friends, sponsors, clients of Roland ) :
Dave " Maranelloman" :" My first session, I was paired with an instructor named Rolan Linder, a LeMans winner & a great driver"

Chris Parr "Cmparrf40": " Roland Linder (multiple LeMans winning driver) is bringing his F40LM (800+HP at the rear wheel!) and I will have my F40 with new Brembo's"

A Rennlist member :"Ergonomically set up for a Lemans Winning Driver.*" about Rolands Ferrari.

"usbikepro" at **************** :" To bad about the Lambo ALMS but maybe this pic can tide you guys over. I'm chasing (but not catching) an F40 LM driven by 3 time Le Mans winner Roland Linder at Pikes Peak Raceway in Colorado Springs over the weekend. Good fun!!!!"

Automotiveforrums writes: " with 2-time Le Mans Champion Roland E. Linder"

Hal Copple writes : " my son Chris, now a Boxster drive, had an afternoon of in-car instruction by Roland Linder, two time winner at Le Mans for Porsche"

"Hamann7" at m5board writes: "I have had contact with Manthey Racing, race teams running GT3-RS, and former Le Mans racer Roland Linder (the guy who had the F40 LM in the Player's Run), who owns a GT3-R, GT2, etc"

GoFast says it, Mothers says it,.,.,.,

Roland better not only be a LeMans driver, but also a winner. I paid him a lot of money for his LeMans status....

Just read a little bit of this thread and saw that Martin said it, too...
" Roland Linder
back in 196X plus again in 200X "

Come on guys, why would these guys post this if it wouldn't be true ? Martin, Chris Parr ( who's also a F40 owner and good friend of Roland's ),.,.,.

Roland looked at our (old) web page many times, watched the DVD many times and never corrected the statement that he's not a LeMans driver and winner.

Roland would never lie to me, I lent him a car for free for more than a year because he didn't have any money, I paid him $$$$ for his status as a LeMans driver, I refered tons of people to him, I put him and his car in magazine articles, all for free...

Have a little bit respect for a LeMans driver/winner ! I'm sure, if he would be able to, he would post on this board and would tell everyone about his LeMans experience as a driver and winner.

I have great respect for anyone that won LeMans. Unfortunately, it wasn't Roland. If you paid him money based upon his resume, which contains that representation, you'd better pick up the phone, and have a long talk with him, and see what his perspective is or isn't. Either he won, or he didn't. If he tied the shoelaces of someone who won, he can't claim that he actually won the race. Looks like a major exaggeration to me, but he can either post or get someone else to post verifiable facts if indeed he is a winner there.

Markus,

wasn't that already answered in post # 181 where awhite posted a transcript of his phone conversation with Roland?

A copy can be found below.

Roland called me this morning and told me this :

//

Sorry for being “out” but my surgery didn’t work out and I’m facing even more surgery. I’m in no shape to spend time on a PC with my lack of energy and mobility troubles.

Let’s get the record straight regarding Le Mans. I was the team manager/tester for a back up factory GT P team and we won twice.

Words got out of that achievement and got out of context, .. Not so even If I did race there 24hrs and 1000KM.

I’m also the one who drove the car on the road to and from both years and that made lots of news.

I’m proud to have been part to that great race and team, even if we missed 4 more attempts at a win.

A few years back, I got “hired” as a consultant and went back to the great event and that ended without success as well, but we tried.

This should cleared up any confusions .

Using the link Thierry's sent, there is a search page within that site, where one can search the names of any drivers of Le Mans; here is the link:

http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/live/pages/retro/historique.html

Very interesting site, although it's in French. My French is a bit rusty, but great info! Just makes you realize what an unbelievable race this is, and what an accomplishment it is to merely finish the race, let alone WIN ! The men who raced there are a who's who of auto racing heros.

Hats off to KRAM! Awsome stories! Thank you for sharing them with us!

Thanks! It is a great link - the sort of thing Wax was looking for on page 1 I guess.

On another note I remember Hans Heyer having a hard time at the circuit, so I typed in his name.

Yup! 15 swings of the bat and he never finished.

In ‘85 or ‘86 someone who introduced us quietly told me that he carried a Tyrolean hat in the car - he got tired of getting a sunburned head during the long walk back to the pits.

He was a great driver too - he just wasn’t lucky there.

There are 11 cars.

001 (chassis 001/1) was a test bed and not a real EXP Speed 8 (Cosworth DFR engine 2000 development car). Converted to a show car.

002 (chassis 002/2) never raced. Tested in 2001 and rebuilt in 2002 to Evo specs. Converted to a two seat track car.

003 (chassis 002/3) raced Le Mans 2001 (Car #8, placed third). Sold to Japanese collector.

004 (chassis 002/4) raced Le Mans 2001 (Car #7, dnf). Rebuilt in 2002 to Evo specs. Converted to show car.

005 (chassis 002/5) never raced. Build to 2002 spec but writen off in testing.

006 (chassis 002/6) raced Le Mans 2002 (Car #8, placed fourth). Still 2002 specs.

007 (chassis 004/1) raced Sebring 2003 (car #7, placed fourth). Retired after Le Mans test.

008 (chassis 004/2) never raced. Written off after one day of testing.

009 (chassis 004/3) raced Sebring 2003 (car #8, placed third) and Le Mans (car #8 , placed second).

010 (chassis 004/4) never raced. Built as a show car after Le Mans.

011 (chassis 004/5) raced Le Mans (Car #7, won outright).

Hey Darth, you should build your CLK into a CLK-GTR. Didn't you win that race at Mugello?

Jack, Thierry...I should have added a :O) to the end of my posts.
It was sarcasm...
on the other hand, until this thread I really wasn't sure if Roland ever competed as a driver/winner at LeMans. And I don't read AWhite posts.

According to him, to his friend and sponsors he did. I guess it's my fault that I never checked up on it...

There might be more than one person who hired Roland to go back to LM in the recent years, I highly doubt it though. The one I know he was hired to go back with was a former participant in the Playersrun. I talked to her a couple days ago and she told me,too that she thought Roland participated in LeMans as a driver....
