Trying to get ready for the spring - and I am a track newby. Are there any track/course events you guys do with ferrari's? Any organizations I have to join to participate? I sent away for SCCA membership twice now, and I have yet to hear from them. Now the testarossa is probably not the best track car, but I have to get it up to speed at least a couple of times! Though I am not really sure I want to be on the track against a dodge neon with a ferrari ($$$), in case we touch. Thoughts?
Yes,there are always a few always posted here in Season. We,(The Ferrari Owners Club.) are also going to one sponsored by Fox Valley Motors. Check out our site: www.focmidwest.com. While you are checking it out. Please consider also joining the F.O.C. We'd love to have you aboard! And,anyone else thats interested. How's that Car! I know that the Weather hasn't been all that great, but,I'm sure you had her out.... I know that it is an extremely clean car.
Bo, A great 1st timer event is put on by Continental Ferrari at Blackhawk Raceway. Mostly street cars. All very nice (no Neon's), quiet group, and plenty of track time. You may want to get on the invite list.
Frank, sent you an pm... Michael, how do I get on the invite list? The car is great. About 500 miles on it so far. I swore I wouldn't drive it in the rain - too late. A week ago I got caught in an ice drizzle. Got home, it was 10 degrees outside, and I was washing the road gunk off. In the summer I will have to lift it and get the undercarriage clean. Car runs great!
Bo, I think Scott over @ Continental is the contact man. Call over and talk with him about the 2005 Blackhawk date. They have not web posted a date for the track day as of yet. You can just watch their web site for updates. They post a link for questions for most every event. In 2004 I think I saw only a handfull of F-chat members there. Of course it did rain 90% of the day...
The original post states: "Trying to get ready for the spring - and I am a track newby." "track newby" = "1st timer" The Continental event is a great event for 1st timers - or - "A great 1st timer event."
Mike, it will be a combination of Indianapolis and IRP. Follows US GP as part of the National. No Gingerman this year. Expect car prep rules to be more stringent and more stiffly enforced. Philip
Hey Philip - If one was to attend the festivities at Indy this year, but can not take the whole week, which days would you do? I'd be interested in driving on the track. BTW, I am mentally challenged... what is IRP? Any of the rest of you going to Indy for the FCA meet?
For details go to: http://www.fca2005.com/ IRP = Indianapolis Raceway Park, a track outside of the USGP/Indy 500 track. No date has been set for the Autobahn track event. Not totally sure on this, but there is still some more work needed at the track. I'm thinking somewhere in May we'll have that event. Should be fun.
It looks highly likely that the Chicago Alfa Romeo Owners' Club will be hosting a track day (or two) at Autobahn towards the end of April, at which everyone will be welcome. Tonight is the club board meeting where the final decision will be made. More details as they become available.
It'd be cool to have an event with them. Probably the only track event a 308 doesn't look that underpowered.
I now have more information on the Autobahn track event that the Alfa club is sponsoring. When I made my initial post in the "Let's Make Plans" thread, I thought it would be a one-day event; it appears now that it will be two days. I am not sure whether there will be the option of coming for just one day, for less money. However, it is being organized to assure plenty of track time for all participants. For those of you who are not track rats but are interested in a chance for some spirited driving on a track, I highly recommend Touring. Touring is a chance to drive the track, in slightly less formal circumstances than the full lapping sessions, and subject to certain rules (e.g., no passing in corners). Here is the official announcement: Note: "Me" in the above announcement (i.e., "email me directly") is event chairman Peter Webb, not me; however, if you have questions or are interested in volunteering, PM me and I will get answers to any questions you may have and/or put you in touch with Peter (I don't want to post his e-mail address on a public forum). Chuck King
Thanks Chuck. Sounds to me like Touring is the way to go. I love to try out new tracks and go fast, but I don't need to do that all day, let alone two days in a row. And fifty bucks for a few laps sounds like a fair deal. How soon can we sign up? How late can we wait to sign up for Touring? I'm not sure I have time in late April, but am willing to throw my fifty into the hat and take a chance. Also if we pick touring, when do we have to be there at the latest? I see that Touring has its own drivers meeting. So does Touring have its own tech inspection? It'd be nice if we wouldn't have to be there by 8am just to sit around till noon, especially since it is a bit of a drive to get there. PS: If we all feel like Touring, we should pick a date. My preference would be Saturday to have Sunday as a backup. Also Sunday is the Imola GP on CBS (!) and it will tape delayed, which means it might air in the afternoon.
You can register, including for Touring, whenever the registration forms show up on the CAROC web site. As I type this it's not up there yet, but it should be soon. The form should have Touring as an option. As far as the deadline, it will depend on how many people sign up. It is possible that you could show up the day of the event, pay $50 and go, but I suppose if they get a lot of pre-registration they might limit cars. But with two sessions a day it's unlikely. I do not believe it's necessary to show up for the early-morning tech sessions in order to tour; I will find out what if any requirements there are about that. There will probably be some administrative/registration stuff to be done so I'd give yourself a little cushion, but you don't need to be there all morning (although that might be interesting, certainly). We are expecting a substantial turnout because this is the first year for Autobahn, and people will be curious about the new track. And, the event is one of the first of the driving season, so (hopefully) lots of people will want to try out the tweaks and mods they installed over the winter. Also, the Midwest Council of Sports Car Clubs is having their own competitive events at Autobahn a few weeks later, and so their drivers will want to come out and learn the track. Re which day, there will probably be fewer cars on the track Sunday than Saturday, but there should be no problem getting at least one session in---and 45 minutes is a lot of time on a race track. I'll probably be there both days in any event.
Chuck, pls keep us posted when their website opens for reservations. Schedule and weather permitting I'm in for Touring on Saturday.
Word from Peter, the event coordinator: for touring, show up around 11:30 and you should be fine. They don't have a full tech inspection for touring (although if something is obviously wrong with a car they might hold it back---unlikely to affect anybody here, I am sure). Of course, if you get there earlier you can watch the lapping guys scream around the track, which can be fun. On the other hand, they will be doing that all afternoon, too. I'll keep an eye on the CAROC site and post again when the registration form is up there.
Sorry, I haven't been on the forum much lately....but did someone say Autobahn Country Club? I'M IN!!!!
At the rate we're going, it looks as if there are a bunch of Alfas lapping all day, only interrupted at noon time by a bunch of Ferraris touring. Kewl.
