well, I may be moving into a loft (urban type of thing my wife and I are into) with the lovely wife. I'm worried, is this going to DESTROY my chances of owning a ferrari? Is it just not safe at all to own one and keep it in the locked up parking structures? Does anyone else have the same situation?

:sigh:.. maybe I can keep it in the living room.

Don't know about lofts, and I'm not an FCar owner yet. However, I'm looking to buy my first FCar, and I live in a condo similar to a "loft" where I have common parking underground. Its not open to the public, but is shared by all other residences in the building.

Anyway, I could NOT get any "speciality" insurance company to insure the car I was looking at. My regular State Farm policy wasn't totally bad and they would cover it, but its more like $500 / year rather than the $150 per year (car was a 75 308 GT4).

I would assume for any collectible FCar or a modern one, the insurance costs would be very high.

    My 2 cents.

Check the parking situation. If the car's parked in a community garage, your premiums will be higher. Some of the better lofts I looked at in Las Vegas had secured, gated parking -- but still a common garage.

This is one of the things that turned me off of the loft idea - that and lack of privacy.

EDIT: One idea would be to look into secure, rental garage space nearby. Ferraris really aren't at their best pottering around downtown at 11mph between lights and vagrants anyway...

I live in a loft on the near west side of chicago - right across from Oprah's studio for those familiar with the area. I have two secured parking spots that I park my daily driver and my 02 996 TT with a car cover on usually. Never had a problem in 3+ years.

As long as it's secure I wouldnt worry if the buildings good. I park the TT next to the door and the SUV next to it for sacrifice to the door ding gods although the car that parks next to me is a AMG SLK so I'm sure she's more worried about me I'm sure.

I would just try to get a spot with one side near a wall, door ect so you can snug it in to one side - and give the door guy a tip once or twice so they know who you are. Although that shouldn't be much of a problem after you pull in with an Fcar!

    good luck
