I've been web hunting for pics of a maroon 308 GTB and to my surprise i can't find any! Does anyone here have one they can post a pic of? Thanks.
You have a comprehensive panorama of the 308's different colors here; I understand your are looking for a "Marrone" GTB, not GTS? It is not a very rare color, by the way. 308-328.com Rgds
No...he's from New York, not Europe so he means what he said and that is Maroon. Maroon is Prugna. Maronne is Chestnut brown and no one from New York cares about that color.
But "Prugna" in Italian means "plum", so why call it Maroon? And "Maroon" in Italian is "Maronne"... Rgds
I understand your confusion but it is us Anglos who are confused. To us, Maroon is "a brownish crimson or claret color". So even though it comes from the word Maronne as in chestnut, we have messed it up and think of it more as a purplish color rather than as a brown. Hence the OP is asking about Prugna. The proof is that a following post had an image of a Prugna 308 posted without asking for any clarification. It's us who have messed it up!
Ah, I see, understood...and thanks. Not surprising by the way, considering that sometimes you even call the leather "Tan" for the italian word "Beige"; worst, you might then use the word "beige" for the Italian "Crema"; but that's only a minor sin considering that the Brits call "Crema": Magnolia...Some might even use "saddle". Slightly confusing, isn't it? "Prugna", or a plum, is a "prune" in French; you use the word "prune" for naming the color of a cloth for instance; for a car, you could, but it would sound slightly odd, so we use the italian "Prugna". The color seem to have some fans, and some who don't like it. I love it, but with a "crema" interior. To go back to the original poster question: if he wants to see specifically a GTB in "prugna", there is a US 328 GTB in Prugna for sale (notably on E-Bay), if a 328 could stand in for a 308, that is... Yes, sorry for the confusion. Maronne is too brown. Prugna is too purple. And as far as I know they're both metallic. The maroon I'm looking for is a solid, non metallic brownish dark red. I've attached some examples. The 275 GTB (number 98) shown below is what I think of as true maroon. More "brick red" colours like Amaranto on the 330 GTC I'd also consider to be maroon. I'm looking for a 308 GTB (or GTS) in any solid colour like this. I think there have been various Ferrari factory names for maroon over the years, although some may be more red than brownish red. I think Amaranto was a factory burgundy in the 60's. From the current options, I think Rosso Mugello is their burgundy...see 599 pic. Thanks! Well, I have not seen that exact color on a 308s/308GT4 yet, but "rosso bordeaux" (20-R-351) would be the closest I know of. The factory catalogue listed a fixed number of colors available for the 308s/308GT4, although the list changed slightly with time; I don't see any solid "maroon" in it, but you could of course order a car in any color you wanted, provided you were ready to wait; a member here had a GTS"i" from new in "Rosso Barchetta" (Glasurit paint) that he ordered in that special color, not from the standard 308 catalogue, from new. Actually, during the first years of production for the GTB / GTSs, let's say the carbed cars, the range of colors into which the cars were ordered new was rather large, and the standard Red was not that much preeminent. It became such with the eighties, and unfortunately many early GTBs in particular that were originally in very interesting colors were repainted red... Rgds
Here is a Prugna colored one for sale at Copley Motors in Needham MA. Hopefully for us, some pays the $129,000.00 that they are asking. 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB | Copley Motorcars J.
The older prugna (just prugna) is a solid colour, not metallic. From 1983, I have seen reference to a "prugna metallica" as a Glasurit FER 306/C paint code. Try a google images search for "prugna ferrari 308", it shows a few different cars in that colour. Check out this web site, it lists and shows many if not most (but not all) of the Ferrari paint colours since the 60s (not just 308s, so it doesn't indicate which were available on 308s): Ferrari Colors Ah, found this link I was looking for - on the 308-328.com web site, they compiled the 308 colours. Check out 308-328.com
I think it is. If so, can you tell me about how unique that is so I can share that with him? I know he would have no idea.
Not quite the colour I'm searching for but super nice! I've seen a few Prugna Mondial's as well. Good colour for 80's Ferrari's.
