Update: Still no magazine, so about 10 days ago I received one of those emails with some articles in it, which prompted me to request the status of my subscription. No response. This is similar to my initial contact last year when I requested a sample copy before I committed to a subscription. I never received a reply to that either.

Apologies for bringing this thread back from the dead, but I just saw in Linkage's newsletter that "exciting changes" at the magazine include printing two annual issues instead of six going forward. They also let their only two editorial staffers go and are bringing operations "in house." All this, of course, following Donald Osborne leaving his CEO and magazine publisher role at Audrain.

I love print but this market is shrinking.

I eventually did receive a few complementary issues (see above) but was not impressed. Frankly it seemed formulaic, a weak imitation of similar magazines…mostly British…that were already established. To be honest, those are getting a bit worn out, too. I already let my subscription to Classic and Sports Cars expire and will probably do the same with Magneto and The Road Rat. I let Cavallino expire because of its departure from its pre-sale style and content.

I'm not surprised at all by the downsizing/changes. The magazine from the very first issue had problems, and was never going to be able to support itself. Obviously the funding from Audrain's/Linkage owner has been reduced significantly.

Linkage? Never heard of it, and have never seen it in the U.S.

Tend to agree, another one, loved Octane since it started, have every issue but the last few months it has really gone downhill.

There’s a proliferation of magazines now that are covering the same material…collector cars, shows, concours, auctions, tours, etc., and it’s starting to feel quite repetitive; to the point where they’ve started to invent their own events; things that have no real heritage except for the venues. I’m beginning to miss the days when our passion was about something that seemed less….mainstream….than it does now.
