I'm thinking about taking my family (wife, three small boys) to the F1 race in Austin this year. Any advice? GA tickets should suffice? Worth going to practice rounds or just Sunday? Is it going to be a crazy zoo or what? FYI, we've taken them to Rome, Barcelona, and about 13 other worlds cities so we can navigate crowd/craziness ok.

Great track with or without seats. Just go and enjoy. Turn one is amazing.

My wife and I went last year and sat in turn 12 and had a parking pass, VIP pass, etc. I was happy to pay extra for those items instead of GA (parking is much better, VIP entry to miss the lines, etc.). If it is your first time, I would suggest all three days, track time is good and you can see everything else Friday before it gets packed on the weekend. We brought backpacks to carry stuff.

    Don't laugh at this:

Buy the weekend package, general admission. Sell the Sunday race tickets. Depending on demand this can pay for the Fri and Sat. tickets

Go Fri and watch practices, Go Sat and enjoy qualifying from a nice spot on the grass. Fly home Sat evening (when no one else is) and watch the race on TV so you can see the entire thing from every corner.

This way you get to absorb the experience over two days and miss the crowds leaving Sun. You save a night's fee in a hotel, car rental, etc. AND you get the race on the big screen HD at home.

I did it this way the first year and I don't think I will ever do it any other way. I realize this isn't for everyone but it is one way to do it while saving mucho $. Just something to think about.
