I was wondering, are there any more Eagle Scouts on here? And just out of curiosity, how has that helped you in life? It has helped me get two jobs and also got me into the college that I wanted. It turned out that the two bosses, and the Dean of students at my college are all Eagles, and that is what the majority of the interviews turned out to be talking about. Anyone else here an Eagle?

yeah, that tends to happen. i made my eagle at 14, and i was really involved on a district level, mainly order of the arrow, and then around 15 or 16 i kind of lost interest, spent more time with friends outside of scouts and started working. i became a third generation eagle, my grandpa, dad and uncle were all eagles, and i think my grandpa was just happy to see me get it.

I'm an Eagle Scout. Finished a month before my 18th Bday. I never got a job because I was an Eagle Scout or anything like that, but it is something I'm proud of and I've always put it down on resumes, etc. I do feel that the scouting experience helped shape me into who I am today.

PS I am just as proud of being elected a Vigil Honor member of the OA. Maybe more so.

PPS I just remembered, being an Eagle Scout did help get me an all expenses paid 2 and a half week trip to Cairo, Egypt when I was chosen to represent the US BSA at a world scouting conference. Of the 100 or so people that applied, I was one of only three who had a valid passport and had traveled overseas alone, so all three of us got to go. So that's one thing that came as a direct resuly of being an Eagle Scout. :)

At 14 I was Life, half way to Eagle when girls, motorcycles and a job to pay for the toys my parents wouldn't spring for, got in the way.

Got my Eagle in Troop 14, San Francisco in 1961. Joined the Knights of Dunamis (National Eagle Scout Honor Society) and served as its National Commander 1965-66. Vigil Honor Canaliño Lodge #90 O/A 1964.

Later in college direct involvement in Scouting gave way to Alpha Phi Omega, which was then the fraternity very closely tied to BSA alumni/support [though today it is more generic (and coed)].

I think that the entire Scouting experience was intensely helpful in giving me a set of moral and civic values which have stood me well through later life. Whenever I am asked to recommend personal guidelines, I often say, "Try the Scout Law." [For nonalumni: "A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, & Reverent."]

I got mine right before I turned 18 too. My current boss is an Eagle too and I do not know if it helped me get my job but it sure did not hurt.

I was a cub scout when I was 7. I left probably less than a year later. The only know of one eagle scout personally and he's one of my friends. I think he got it when he was 17 or 18.

I made Brotherhood in Shawnee Lodge, #51. I became "inactive" after about 2 years of becoming Brotherhood. I have been to two National Jamborees, once as a scout and once as an adult leader, which were both fun. I do sometimes look back, and wonder, if I hadn't of quit showing up, would I have made Vigil? But then again, if I was only going to be after the awards and accolations, then I was in it for all the wrong things. My sister is a member of APO, and unfortunately, I do not see eye to eye with a lot of their views, so I chose not to join with them. My years in scouting and O.A. were some of the best, and I have decided that once I get out of college and settle down with one of those hot sorority girls, I am going to get back in it, both on the troop level and a more wide level.

I'm an Eagle Scout. One of my accomplishments I'm most proud of. I believe the Boy Scouts is probably the finest youth organization in the world. I have a daughter, now, but if I ever have a son, that is something I hope to share with him. Continue to support the Scouts, everyone, be prepared...and remember to do your good turn daily!!!

The Scouts are the only charity that I donate to on a regular basis. I honestly believe that this is one group that is well worth it, considering the impact that it has made on my life. I too can only hope that if I have a son he can become a member, and hopefully become a fourth generation Eagle.

Funny you mention APO, I joined a chapter (was even chapter pres my second semester) but never quite clicked with any of those people. They were all a little wierd. I had totally forgotten about that until you mentioned them. I think APO is a far different organization now than when it was founded.

BTW, for those who are Eagle Scouts, what was your project? Mine was putting together ID/fingerprint packages for parents to use in the event that their kid was abducted. We did it for a small private elementary school... we fingerprinted the kids on the last day of school that year and sent the kit home with their report cards. I did this a few months after a little girl named Amber Hagerman was abducted and killed in our area.. if you've ever heard of the Amber Alert that's who it's named after.

For mine I refurbished the playground at my Temple. It was a nice little project, in all I think we had close to 1000 man hours done on it. It was basically between this and a blood drive, and unfortunately the blood drive kind of fell apart, partly due to my contact at the Red Cross getting moved to a new region. To add on to that question, how many merit badges did everyone earn? I wound up with 26, enough for a bronze palm.

As for APO, my sister had a meeting at our house one night, and I just remember looking around, and I thought to myself, these are not the kind of people that I want to associate myself with. I agree with their basic premise of service, however to me it seemed like they had no idea what was going on. It was kind of like, hey I need you to do this, and oh yeah, it needs to be done tommorow. Their relationship with the scouts seemed like it wasn't there, there were absolutely NO Eagles in my sister's chapter, and the only link was, and I hope I'm remembering this correctly, the chapter advisor has to be a member of the BSA. Aside from this, the link was non-existent. Anyways, I have a few more resentments toward this group, but that's enough of my ramblings. (BTW, I don't like dissing on groups very much, especially non-profit ones, but when a group of volunteers seem more interested in the party afterwards, then I have my problems.)

I organized, solicited donations for items, and ran a big garage sale to benefit a local food bank. It was nothing too glamorous but we raised a bunch of money for them in a year when they had a budget shortfall.

Yep, Troop 232, Bay Area Council....Galveston County Texas

    Philmont Ranch as well.

Never was excepted into the Order of the Arrow, as I had to many life distractions at that point!

Brother was Eagle as well and Dad was awarded the Silver Beaver for his lifetime contributions..

Sad to say, my son after receiving Arrow of Light and all Cub Scout awards available left the program and they have had a LOT of problems at the top levels of current BSA leadership, so I just let it go......my nephew made Eagle recently though.

My lil' sister led the Troop, after Dad died........
