I got mine at 16. That and the leadership positions I had in Scouts helped me get into the Air Force Academy. I enjoyed backpacking all over Southern California and the Grand Canyon. At the Academy, I got to go to Philmont to spend 3 weeks as a Ranger.

I don't know if it helped me get my job after retiring from the AF, but I still put it on my resume. It could never hurt to show that you were committed to something that early in life and learn to Never Quit!

Minor trivia: I always wondered how the ranks "Star" and "Life" got chosen. Particularly the latter, as it - and its red-heart emblem - seems peculiar.

What's "Parvuli Dei" - a BSA religious award?

Yep. Our troop was out of a Catholic parish so it wasn't out of the realm. They trained us to find the Holy Grail in order to prevent the Templars.....oops, wrong Dei! ;) :D Actually, it was over 20 years ago so my recollection is very fuzzy (see my girls/partying reference above). But I do remember much bible reading and the award was given by the Archbishop of New Orleans during a mass.

yeah, here in stl they have a mass where the archbishop gives the catholic religious awards to the scouts. i earned the aleph and ner tamid awards, (jewish) and i do remember a lot of studying the torah, and got the latter presented to me by one of the leading jewish leaders in st. louis. from what i remember, majority of scouts drop out by first class, so the star award was created as kind of an accomplishment, and the life award is pretty much that your in scouting for life. i'm not quite sure if this was the answer you were looking for though

Got mine with Troop 83, Salem Mass. Still put it on my resume and it has actually helped as an ice breaker in interviews.

My Eagle project was boring. I organized the cleanup of a chapel for sale...had much more fun with my friends - he built 6 Osprey nests in a local marsh area.

My Boy Scout memories are almost always filled with explosives or fire of some sort. Like the time in post 41 here:
