A friend of mine told me that his phone showed 'water exposure' even though it had never been submerged so I popped the battery cover off of my Razr this afternoon and sure enough mine has the red dot that lets Moto take a powder from its warranty responsibilities. I am fortunate that there is nothing wrong with my phone but I find it interesting that neither phone had been submerged and both show water damage from the tell tale dot. I keep my phone either in my shirt pocket, pants pocket or suitcoat pocket. The only water that it may have been exposed to are sweat, rain or humidity.

I talked to the 'techs' at the local VZW store and they basically told me that if anything went wrong on the phone that I was on my own as Moto would disclaim any warranty claims if the dot is red. Bad news for me, but I'll just pray that nothing goes wrong until the contract is expired.

It's not just the Razr, It's ANY cell phone.

I have Alltel, and after I got it I could not hear the ringer, so I threw it right back in the box, in the trunk of my car. It was not outside of the box for longer than an hour. A week later I took it in, and sure enough, they IMMEDIATELY said 'water damage'.

    I blew up.

It wasn't water damage, the ringer has an option for the first ring loud, the second ring one notch lower, the third ring another notch lower, etc. and that's what the problem was.

But anyway, even last week, we took the daughter's phone in, sure enough, the crooks IMMEDIATELY said 'water damage'. They went on to say 'don't have it in the bathroom with you when you take a shower, etc.'. The crooks also said they can detect 'water damage' by looking at the contacts at the charging socket, signs of corrosion, etc.

My question is, can you erase or remove the red dot crap altogether, or 'paint on' a new one ?

I hate cell phone companies more than insurance companies, and that's saying something.

I see the red dot on my Moto phone V265, it very slightly pink compared to the white battery. Am I also screwed?

I should note this phone has been underwater, in a sauna, in my sweaty hands, in a drain, in a rainstorm and everything else you can think of.

This happend to me today with my motorola L6. I have never put it near water, yet the keypad light is constantly on, and so i sent it away for repairs. It came back today and they told me that due to the phone being in/near/ or something to do with water, they are obliged not to fix it.. they said that the circut board was corroding.. hmmm well im none that impressed

My older phone was a nokia 3200 and it never ever had that problem
What a great phone it was..

Thus far, I see a disproportionate amount of "water-damaged" devices that have never been near water.

If humidity makes the white dot turn red and corrosion occur:
    A] It's your fault.
    B] It's the manufacturer's fault.

    Somebody's gonna pay.

Keep records, receipts and so forth.

If and when a class-action suit becomes a reality, you'll be glad you did.
