These guns a a lot of fun. I don't do the war game thing, but just like to have fun in the back yard hitting cans, targets and keeping the 'Yellow-Tailed' deer our of my rose bushes.

Here are my two guns. Not real high-end, but a blast to plink around with! The gun on the top is a WalMart special @ $29. The drop hole for the balls is offset at a 45o angle, smart for aiming. The one on the bottom was $129 at Big5 (On sale for $69). This is an OK gun, but the drop hole for the balls is vertical, making it harder to aim. Kind of a stupid design for accuracy because it has a mount for a scope, but then you are unable to load it!

paintballing is alot of fun, try freezing the balls then shooting them. They hit much harder that way. Ive got a tippman model 98 custom. Its about as generic as you get but sooooo much fun. One time we were at the place and these guys showed up with like M16 paintball guns, paint gernades, and all this other crap. First two rounds we got out butts kicked, but 3,4,5 round we out smarted them and beat them. It was glorious.

it hurts so much, but it makes the game more intresting. We only use the frozen ones when its 3 or 4 of us because we dont like to freeze many and we have the best game for frozen and unfrozen balls.

So, f you hit a bunny or squirrel with a paintball (unfrozen), they will survive?

I wouldn't shoot to kill our back yard bunny, but it'd be pretty funny if he got painted pink. Especially at Easter time.

I shot my RA in college with a frozen ball in the ass & he cried like a little girl. I thought I was going to get kicked out for sure. Little bastard had no sense of humor.

I'd only pop a deer in the butt to get them out of my plants. It probably does not even sting. I would never hit a small animal though. Hitting a squirrel or a bunny in the face could do some bad damage. I don't thinks it's right to maim small animals.

I got started in, gee probably 1991 with a now classic pump gun called a Tracer and Phantom. At the momet I have an Tippman A5, ( similar looking to the famous Spec Ops and Swat team Heckler and Koch MP5 submachine gun. ) It is very amazing ROF and range wise as I can say I have over $500 invested in the gun.

I go with some buddies I went to JROTC/Military school with and those just seeking adventure and the odd impulse to waste their friends in a fast paced game. I guess its the alternative to the wild auto races we usually go on and none of us are into golf. We're big into this new craze from Japan called Airsoft as well, which I will admit game play and feel of the gun is amazing.

We do this responsibly, at a ranch or field only. I despise thinking of teen punks taking shots at some neighbors cat that belongs to some 8 year old girl.

The whole gameplay of both airsoft and paintball is quite a rush and using old skills you learned from vets and active army is kind of fun and definitely character building. The ride back arguing how your buddy got a lucky shot off is just as fun as rushing a bunker.

The vertical drop-tube is to facilitate a faster ball-drop for faster shooting...mostly for speed play....and the guys that play that usually know exactly where their ball is going to end up. My Matrix has that, and it's much easier to play with / get a ball where I want it than my '98 custom, although I love the 98 too.

As far as animals are concerned, I know that popping a robin will result in a giant cloud of feathers (it was an accident) and a goner (at 300 fps).

I would advise against anyone screwing around with frozen paintballs, unless you are just shooting cans. I don't want to imagine what one of those would do at close range on skin......not to mention the fact that the lexan goggles aren't designed to take a blast like that. Bye bye eye. Anyone seriously messing with that should take a point-blank shot at 'unoccupied' goggles at one foot and 350 feet per second. Until then, I would be very weary.

At any rate.....if any of you guys are in the NY area, we should schedule a day trip.

    Regards,
    Kevin

I played competitively on a team for about 5 years... but didn't have the free time to dedicate to it and ended up giving it up completely due to lack of interest in playing with the "novice" rental gear users after I stopped playing on leagues.

Tried it a couple of times but the guy's who rent the guns have them set at a certain speed...done by radar. Everybody entering the play zone has their gun tested through the radar trap. As soon as you get in, the regulars with their own guns increase the strength and also show up with their own ammo....in coolers to keep them nice and hard leaving everbody with huge bruises. Alot of fun if it's played with equal equipment.

I did the indoor thing once.......And never again! After stuffing towells down my pants to protect the crotch (with a cup too!) and two pairs of jeans, I got hit on the cheek, between the face mask. It was a one in a thousand shot by the guy that hit me, but it hurt like hell and I had a welt for about two weeks!

That's because the paintball businesses or clubs want to make the profit on selling the paintballs and probably smoked over by some BS about liability insurance.

Peter and I have something in common! :D Oh yeah, besides Ferraris.

I started playing in 1990 with a F1. Great gun that shot straight, never broke, never froze up, wasn't a gas hog, and easy to take apart to clean. Not sure why I ever sold it. Formed a college team out of Babson that played tournaments up in New England states 1992-1994. The Babson mascot was the Beaver, so we were the Beavers! Rally cry was "Can't lick the Beavers!". Out of college with my first job got a mini-mag and still have it to this day. X boss had it for past 2-3 years, but I finally got it back. I don't play much, but shot it in the back yard the other day with a couple other FC'ers. The technology and nature of the game has changed so much since I played. Now more just a speed ball spray as much as possible game. I use to enjoy the large fields and scenario games. If I had time, I would probably play more.

I used to do this years ago, now all my old fields are subdivisions. I always used rental equipment though, as I was too poor to buy a marker.

Rob's right, the game seems to have gone from more strategic goals to "pour on the paint" from what I've seen on ESPN8 "The Ocho" :D Heck, I remember getting my rear kicked by a quiet old guy with a pair of pistols -- I don't think that's possible anymore.

I played a few times when I was in HS. I never bought any sort of gun until you could buy the crappy ones for 20 bucks at walmart.

Most fun I ever had with a paintball gun was trying to hit 18 wheelers going the other direction on the interstate on long trips. Helps pass the time. :)

Painball is alot of fun. I don't have a gun yet, but the times I have played I loved it. And yes frozen balls are dirty.

I paintballed once, and it was the time of my life. Though I got hit by a frozen paintball on my left arm, leaving a bruise which literally took up my upper arm, and was about 1 cm away from touching each other around the arm end to end. It was sucky, everytime I moved that arm, it hurt like anything. Ever since then, dad hasn't let me touch a paintball fun as he thinks that the balls can shoot through the masks. O well.

Paintball is sweet. Although I do have to say that I don't enjoy speedball, but there are still a few places out there that have the big fields with scenario games. I don't have my own gun but my friend has an extra Auto-Cocker that I use when we go.

I played some in the Marines, and a few games here and there now. Tell you what though, there is nothing like 3 friends going out and waxing a team of 10 people. We utterly destroyed them with combat techinques. It was kinda nice to be able to implement them full speed, firing somewhat "live" ammo. Real different experience.

Paintballing is so fun! I don't have a gun but my friend has like three tippman 98 customs. I might get an Ion soon though from another friend.

Do you guys go to a Paintball course place? Or the Woods?
