New here but been reading for a while. I have finalised my spec but can do some minor changes over next few days and whilst at the spider launch was told I could get the area where the front wings are attached painted in body colour. I decided I would go for it even though there were no pictures available as I think it will look great and be unusual. I have not been able to find any pictures of this option apart from a few of a white car on this board at the thread below ( very nice I think). I thought it was a new option but the pics are dated late 2010 - maybe that car had been done outside the factory, anybody know or have pics of others with this factory option? I'm told it's £1,600 Inc tax Uk.

My car is titanio, with diamond sports wheels (may go for the scud type special order multi spokes depending on the price), red wheel centres and calipers, shields, Nero leather, red stitching and rev and carpets and belts, cf seats, wheel, d zone, dash, tunnel, other usual extras.

Arrives around late November and it will be on the road 1st jan so no late night bringing in the new year!

    Any pics or opinions welcome.

As I posted in the other thread, looks great, especially on that white example. But £1,600... Ferrari really are taking the piss!

It thought it was a bit stiff alright, I had been given an estimate of £700. Ferrari options prices, to me at least, are more than a little hair raising at times. Supply and demand I suppose, who can blame them for charging what customers will pay (Inc me obviously!) I managed to keep myself in check with my california but seem to have lost the run of myself with the 458 - such a fantastic car. Mind you I won't tell my mother how much it cost for the seat she is in!

Talking to a dealer in the uk who sold one at costing £246k - that's list plus new Nissan gtr plus 10k for a track day Elise. Still changing to a spider though, I have been hooked!

Have you you seen the mp4-12c options? I think they thought Ferrari were selling too cheap.

I saw the CF on a Nero this weekend at a car show. Looked cool, but wasn't really a fan. Didnt blend enough.

It does look great in blue, thanks for the pic. I am not going to bother as I think its too expensive, as a UK option anyway. Got the price of the wheels - £9k plus titanium bolts so I will leave that as well.

Having accused Ferrari of taking the piss I'd still say go for it. In the greater scheme of things what's a grand and a half if it turns this extraordinary machine into the car you really want.

I am thinking the same thing, it does look really good and seems to be very rare - at the moment anyway. Being a 'careful' scotsman I am having dificulty with what is approx 30cm square of paint - it makes the triple pearl look reasonable. On the other hand I did negotiate some reductions in other areas so maybe I can spend my savings, as it were. Dealer back from trip today so final, final spec agreed tomorrow. I will refer back to the blue pic during the day (and its a nice blue as well).

Anybody got a pic of the option in titanio or similar shade?

Interesting, I instead thought it blended too much and the CF wasn't really visible to my eyes. For my Nero Stellato car I've remained with the standard look as it stands out from the black.

Sure does look good on both the white and blue cars. The only other thing I would say is, depending on you number plate positioning, it may well be 30cm square of paint that you're not going to see. All said and done, though, were I ordering right now this would probably be on my options list. Really does look good.

thanks for that - quick but gives me a good idea, cheers.

I am of the opinion currently that I will keep my front plate in the boot/trunk (bent to shape with tape attached and maybe a few insects on it). In the uk it is a fixed penalty fine of £60 for not displaying a plate but more importantly there are no penalty points (most light offences 3 points and 12 and you are off the road for a while) - you get 3 I think for a none standard font on a plate. Points drop from your licence after 3 years. I will do some proper checking before venturing out on the road.

I think I will get away with it a few times as it will have just fallen off, as it were. First fine and I will fix it - I think £60 is a small price to pay in order to enjoy unadultared lines for a while. Then again I live in Ireland, but am from scotland, and would keep my expensive cars there as the import duty/annual road tax is too high here and there is no used market (now at any rate) - its only 35 mins flying time dublin to glasgow. That means I have an Irish driving licence and cant get uk points, yet. I would pay any fine as I dont want to spend a night in the cells if pulled a second time and I will probably move back at some point.

Not sure if this is true but I was told there was an official uk exemption for front plates on the 458 for the first 3 months as Ferrari had no correct mounting plates. I was also told that enzos are front plate exempt (not in the position to test that one).

As I have not ordered cruise control it will be a pain to stay legal whilst amidst the proliferation of average speed cameras in the uk - if I have a front plate that is as they all work on front plate recognition. I might be able to enjoy the same 'freedom' as UK bikers for a while. Of course Irish licence means no automatic speeding fines as there is no cross border agreement with Ireland although if caught by the police 'acting the maggot' a non uk resident can find themselves locked up for a night or two until a large fine is imposed and paid.

(obviously I do not condone reckless speeding/driving - its the look of the car thats more important re front plates)

Expensive but I have gone for it, I think it looks great although I agree it would not really stand out on nero cars. Countdown begins - should be able to see it in the showroom end of november/ start of december.

Thanks for the pic of the white one, looks good. I will post some pics of mine when it arrives. Might have been even better if I had gone for the CF wings but I cant aford all the extras!

I wouldn't bother on a black car but I absolutely love it on all of the other colors.

I really like the painted center. I think it looks 'right'. The original option looks a little cheap in comparison. Its like my 430, I wish the front bumper scoops were painted black instead of that plastic material.

Looks like your body shop did a good job COBrien, maybe Ferrari seen yours and decided to offer it as an option! I was totally unaware of itas an option in September until it was mentioned to me at the atelier in maranello where they could only show me a sketch.

I'll be the dissenter and say I really don't like the look. The contrast of the little "mustache" is a bit too much IMO.

What might be interesting is if the whole area was painted - including the fins - anyone seen any pictures of an example painted like that ?

I agree; not a fan of the "mustache" either. I think the color coded bumper works on Grigio Titanio, but that's about it, IMVHO.

It looks a little odd to me. How would it look if the center stayed black and the whiskers were painted the body color? Hrmm..
