Any point in ordering 430 today?

Go to a dealer and find one ordered and be prepared to pay $60,000 over MSRP for coupe and $ 100,000 for spyder and you will get a car ---- otherwise buy a Porsche GT2 ( if you can get one) or a Lambo (plenty for MSRP). No MSRP possible for the 430 and they stop coming to U.S. as of August 2008. Best

 

if you want a 430 spyder, you don't need a gt2 to give you the performance of the 430-a 997 turbo will do just fine-they even make cabs, which you can get without paying a dollar over msrp.

 

To say nothing of smoking a 430. Yes, I know, I have owned both and still own the TT Cab.

 

Ther reason why you can get a TT without paying anything over is that when you come to sell it you will have to accept a huge number under what you paid, unlike the 430 and regardless of the performance gap between the two.
If you really want a 430 buy one in the market as close to your ideal spec and just enjoy it without getting hung up over the really minute details that only you will know about in a custom ordered car.

 

To answer the question in the title of this thread, I don't believe you can go anywhere today and order a 430 or get on a real 430 list. Pay over MSRP is probably the only way.

How does a car smoke another car?? Is is 0-60? 1/4 Mile runs? Top speed? Of course, I know what you mean, but it is rather silly to me.
I guess because I have every boy racer in L.A. try to race me and often some kid will ask me why I didn't by a Lambo or Porsche GT.
He then says " Dude, a TT Porsche will SMOKE your car from 0-60" or "Dude, my cousins Z06 can smoke your car at the track!"
I then reply by saying that my 2007 Shelby GT500 with 50K in Mods will make you **** in your pants if you tried to floor it you little
punk *****!!! Well, I don't actually say it, but I think it! My point is that whatever any of us drive becomes OUR car and like it or not
we develop an attachment to it.

I promise you that my F430 will give me WAY more driving thrills than your TT Cab could ever give ME.
YOU may have a different experience. I have owned 3 911's and they we're all good cars. Once I was able to afford a Ferrari I got the one I wanted (BLK Coupe F1 with less than 60 Miles on it) I LOVE my 430 more each and everyday. It's my daily driver too! The guy wants a 430 and is willing to wait for one. If he is willing to wait AND is OK with not getting every single spec exactly as he wishes, he will get the car at
a good price. That day will come when the next mid engined V8 Ferrari hits our shores (not the Scudera, the 430 replacement).
I can also say with 100% assurance that my next Ferrari or Porsche TT or Audi RS8 (I know, but I can dream) will smoke my current 430 and spank it like the little ***** it will one day be......of course, when it's no longer MINE!!

 

Deciding what car to buy is a very very subjective experience. If any of us simply wanted speed, we could attach a large motor to a shopping cart. I was tempted to spend the $72,000 Novitec requires to pump the 430 up to 700hp but then realized it really is not why I bought the (elegant, sophisticated, beautiful, luxurious, viscerally satisfying) Ferrari 430. If I feel inadequate going 0-60 my Z-06 cures that, and if the day comes when this too is not enough, for less than $15,000 I can supercharge it and lay waste to virtually anything on the street. I own a Porsche Turbo, a technically phenomenal car. But after owning several, everytime I get in, I expereience de ja vu - nothng special. I own a Bentley, which has 550hp and is an entirely different experience, and my wife loves driving our SL 55 "because it goes so fast when I hit the gas". If you have the money, you can satisfy all needs and if not, you are forced to choose. I remember in the movie The Big Chill when someone said "a rationalization is more important than sex, trying going a day without a rationalization". Best

 

The guys selling their 360s for $100k would disagree..........at the numbers being produced, the supply does catch up eventually.....then the slide begins....

 

Without a HUGE markup over MSRP, if you don't have a relationship you're out of luck with only 12-18 months of production left. Buy your 355/360 from your local authorized dealer and put down a deposit on the 430 replacement for 2-3 year delivery.........and take your dealership guy out to lunch occasionally........

 

Sure, eventually both cars depreciate but on a linear scale the rate of depreciation for a Porsche 997 Turbo is immediate and dramatic compared to a Ferrari 430, using MSRP as the starting point.

For example, compare the FMV of an 07 430 Coupe to the FMV of an 07 997 Turbo Coupe. A new 997 is now being discounted by dealers whereas the Ferrari is still selling at well over MSRP for used cars.

Comparing the 430 Spider to the soon to be released 997 Turbo Cab and the result is the same. I was offered a "launch" 997 Turbo Cab at MSRP. That would be unheard of if it was a 430 Spider.

Read the May 8 Wall Street Journal article on Ferrari and how it cleverly manipulates supply and you get a clear idea of why the depreciation schedules are in contrast.

 

Lots of great advice here- but once again this is the bottom line advice. They are wonderful cars- if you love cars you will love the 430.

I've owned several Porsches and can tell you the depreciation on a 997 & 997S is about 30% after 2 years. It's significantly less for GT2's and GT3's as their production is far less. The turbos have worse depreciation than the GT's, but better than the 997's. They are all great cars with varying degrees of aggressiveness and power. MO...

My friend ordered a brand new 430 here in SoCal and paid $30k over sticker for a coupe. He is supposed to receive it in August. He randomly walked into the dealership and they offered it to him. This was around three months ago. He got to spec the car and everything. This is his very first Ferrari and in fact, probably his first time even visiting that dealership!

 

For low $100k ther are selling a '99 360 Modena which brand new went for something like $140k. So if the car is a one owner, then such a guy is only down about $35k in 8 years!

 

If you don't mine, which dealer? $30 sounds reasonable.

No, with the markup over MSRP you may have paid $180k.....

Obviously, these are low depreciating cars (although the service prices hack into that to increase the overall cost of ownership).

 

FINALLY someone who actually can do the math. So many guys (myself included) seem to forget the cost of ownership with cars, homes, etc when it comes time to sell.

you guys make me laugh! It's all about money! At what time in your life does the money finally not matter? I learned a life lesson from a very wise man before he died! He was 67 years old just had retired and was going to start enjoying his life when bingo CANCER killed him! Before he died he told me make sure you live your life and give into your dreams! He had made a bunch of "money" and had more than he needed. Then realized death negates all and nothing really matters in the end except how you lived your life and whether you did some good in this world for others. bottom line, buy the car you want make the deal and then enjoy the hell out of it! then sell it for a decent price and get something else!
