I definitely feel a bit better with NCM, Grundy just seems a bit too good to be true. Thankfully I never had a claim, but no mileage restrictions, no deductible, etc. for the same price as a policy with both. Strangely I'm more comfortable with more restrictions on paper. Insurance is a strange beast.

The premium is low because the use is restricted -- literally for a show-only car, or stored car, that is not used EVER for anything else. If you are worried about a meteorite hitting your car on the show field, or the storage building, it's fine ;).

So, immediately after this, I hung Hagerty on the other 2 F-cars. Acuity and Grundy sent out an adjuster. The Grundy guy wrote a really goofy estimate. 57k and didn't even write down a Radiator. OK, so he's out of his league. Then Acuity guy says "I don't think I'm qualified to write an Estimate on this one." OK, I'll send it up to MPI. They paid storage and shipping to Neenah. I've heard of American Modern. Hagerty is involved with FCA and can't afford to treat us members like Grundy is treating me. I tried to find that book called Delay, Deny, Defend from 14 years ago, written by an Ins. insider. Found 1 copy on Ebay. Bid to $785 right now.

Some years ago at Pebble Beach I asked an insurance man with the last name of Grundy if their insurance brand covered driving to the grocery store. The verbal answer was a clear no. I understood their attractive rates were due in part to the narrow coverage, for which I did not wish to be restricted in the way I use my cars. I've always paid more than what I have heard were their rates, but my cars have coverage which matches their usage.

I have no problem with some restrictions as I’ll never drive my “toy” cars for anything but weekend pleasure drives but I don’t want to get screwed if I stop by a Walmart, take it to church or stop for lunch or something. I’ll be more than happy to stay under 3k miles (which I would anyway) to not have to worry about getting screwed over by insurance if something happens.

I have had all of my cars including my F cars with State Farm for more than 40 years without a claim. The one thing I insisted on and got in writing was "in case my car is totaled or repair exceeds the stated value I OWN THE TOTALED vehicle".

Following language is in my Grundy/Cin-Fin policy for a vehicle classified as Exhibition.

It is agreed such insurance as is afforded by this policy, with respect to a specific motor vehicle described in
the policy and rated as an 'Exhibition Automobile' applies provided:
    1. The use of the vehicle is:
    a. Primarily for exhibition, club activities, parades, or other functions of public interest; and
    b. Not used on any regular basis (such as to and from one's place of employment), or, for business or
    commercial purposes;
    2. The vehicle is permanently garaged when not in use; and
    3. The annual mileage of any one such vehicle is no more than 4,000 miles.
It is also agreed the value of this vehicle shall be as shown in the Declarations.

There is latitude for using it for other than show, just not on a regular basis. Should be obvious that it would be impossible to come close to the mileage limit of 4k if show-only, although I guess if you drove it to Monterey from Dallas you might get there;), but then you would be leaving it parked at hotels overnight/parking at restaurants/etc.

I know you're half joking but most likely there's an "Act of God/Force Majeure" clause that wouldn't allow it to be covered. They don't miss a thing.

The "problem" is that occasionally going for a personal pleasure drive and stopping by the coffee shop (even at very low annual mileage) does not meet condition "a" unless you are doing a (provable amount of a) lot of "club activities, parades, or other functions of public interest". Do as you please -- I'm just pointing out to "read the fine print".

All i know is I am done with Grundy/Philly and I'm a heck of a lot more comfortable with the language in the NCM/American Modern policy.

My cars are for weekend pleasure drives, be it A-A or A-B with the occasional cruise-in. If all Grundy allows is trailering your car to a show so strangers can jerk to it and back to the house and never put any miles on it, I'm out.

The Grundy folks were not particularly pleasant when I called regarding a policy. While significantly cheaper, I ended up going with American Modern for my 308 which was between Grundy's quote and Hagerty.
