    Hi,
I am just wondering if there are any proper F-40's on the market and for sale in the USA? I have seen a few for sale that have been modified in a few different ways, but I am looking for an original that has been well taken care of, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, if I were to purchase a modified F-40 (say new turbos, lm brakes, throttle linkage, new wheels, tubi exhaust and some other things) how would the depreciation compare to an all original car? Could an original keep APPRECIATING while the modified DEPRECIATED? I am new to the Ferrari supercar market (owned a 348, 355, 355 challenge, 2 550s) so I have a few basic questions. Pardon my ignorance if it has been disscussed before, but I tried searching and couldn;t find anything directly relevant to what I am trying to figure out.

    TIA,
    Jack

most the mods are just bolt on stuff, so if the owner has all the original bits there should be no issue

BTW you really want to upgrade the brakes on an F40 as the originals are Really bad

imho, upgrades on an F-40 are desirable. I bought one with a modified suspension, large intercoolers and larger rotors and brakes among other things, and it was said to improve the value by 50,000. This is not a vintage daytona or 275 GTB...it is a modern high performance car and tubis and brakes really make a difference. I wanted original wheels etc...but realized that the better and larger brakes were much more desirable for performance. I am happy with the upgrades. You can actually find smaller rotors and original brakes for sale from dealers/owners who didnt want to keep them.

I suspect the collector market/concours folks will pay up for a bone stock version. If you want to resell to collectors, I'd buy the lowest mileage example possible and park it forever in a humidity and temperature controlled environment. I'm not sure the driver market has the same fanaticism, but then, I'm a driver and I paid a premium for a low mileage example.

On the other hand, some of the mods are very expensive and very useful - like the brake upgrades, for example. I don't think you need to upgrade the brakes for street use (I haven't), but I've never heard anyone love the stock brakes for any serious track use.

So, my 2 cents: in the long run, a stock car will be worth more on resale than a modified car. A modified, driven car may be worth more to the typical owner!

Edit - remember, even though we call the F40 a "supercar," its technology dates back to the 80s. In some sense, it's a vintage car. Mods help update it.

I agree completely. my car is completely stock. brakes are perfectly fine for the street. no fade at all.

I personnally don't see the need to modify my car for the track. If I want a track car, I will get a track car.

Bottom line, is do what makes you happy. No wrong answer... It's an F40!

I own a F40 which is for sale. It will be in Monterey next week. The car is very stock with under 5500 miles. The car is perfect and will have the major service done prior to a deal. If you have a interest email me at [email protected] and leave me your phone number. I do not want to hear from any brokers. Thanks JC

And an adjustable Carbon wing in the back helps a lot too! ;)

Only if you track the car HARD. On the street they are far above average.
